hi, having been pleased with the performance of my ps3 only used for blu-ray films is it worth getting the standalone blu-ray players e.g panasonic or pioneer having been told the sound and picture quality is a lot better now than my ps3 or is it better keeping hold of my ps3.having read the recent reviews is it worth the change, i have a pioneer 436xde plasma, and onkyo sr605 reciever.

There is little point IMHO in buying another BD player. The PS3 has lost the overall lead based on BD performance per pound but with regular upgrades the performance is still improving

Id have to agree with andy, there is probably a slight improvement in picture and sound quality over the PS3,

But i dont think its like the leap in PQ and AQ we seen when moving from VHS to DVD and from DVD to BluRay.............

Stick with the PS3 i say........

Thirded. No huge gains to be made unless you want to really spend. I find the picture sensational on mine. And recent upgrades have only improved matters. The PS3 might be a budget BD player, but with the power on tap, and regular upgrades it keeps up pretty well.

It's also a fine DVD player for the money too...Better than my Cambridge DVD99 by quite a margin.

Is it not the case that the ps3 can't bitstream the like of DTS master audio which the latest players can ?

I ave to say however my pal has just bought a new sony 40" which he has a ps3 connected to and he showed me vertiacal limit yesterday and I have to say for an oldish film it looked stunning!!

Im now toying with the idea of a PS3 myself as this still allows the use of other media if required.

yep the ps3 is a great player but after listening to you guys on the forum the other players dont offer a big enough jump in performance to warrant a change and i will stick with my ps3 for now.yes it cant output as bitstream but as lpcm which sony says is as good as.
