I've been using my beloved Sony Playstation 3 as a games console and as a blu-ray player. When I bought the console is was purely for games, but over the past few years I have become very involved in the building of my home cinema. I love Blu-ray and just wonder whether a stand alone Blu-ray player would give me better sound and picture quality? Or whether the difference would be noticeable?

What's the rest of your set-up? The PS3 can be bettered for BD sound and picture quality, but much will depend on the partnering kit.

Hi Will

Particularly with sound you will get a massive improvement if you find a Blu Ray player able to bitstream the HD sound.
Most new players have this ability.

I have the phat PS3 and it cant bitstream HD audio, but if its DD then I do notice a difference If I let my VSX819 do it, it does a better job IMO

I would say the Sony 370 would be worth a gander at 99.00 but when you start getting into the higher end of £300.00+ then you need to ask yourself, will you see a £300.00 worth of picture upgrade over the PS3?..... I personally have yet to be convinced of the difference on cost to quality ratio
