Sony & Panasonic to end OLED TV partnership?

They are just being pragmatic. The article says " it appears that they cannot produce the panels at a low enough cost, or make them last long enough." Enough people on this forum are having quality issues with Panasonic plasmas, they cannot afford a similar reputation with OLED as well.

Finally "LG Display has started supplying its WRGB OLED panel to other manufacturers" which implies that LG will always have the economies of scale, to undercut Panasonic and Sony in the future, and probably make it difficult for them to sell OLED TVs at a profit.

I don't think this news sheds any further light on it, as the source for both is the same: Nikkei.

Have Panasonic not been what you would call the 'top kiddies' in the plasma ranks and yet have had Sooo many problems whilst the public have been told that they are in fact the TV's to be buying ? Strange given that soooo many people have been complaining about their TV's now for a few years ?

Sony have without doubt fallen behind Samsung and Panasinic with their TV's.

Does this then mean that Panasonic and Sony will now try to get the 'better' 4K TV's to us, though they will likely be a lot more expensive to be buying ?

Will both go under IF Samsung bring out the quite brilliant Oled Tv's at great prices ?

I recon that Samsung will go on to become the World's leader in all things.

Panasonic was never considered top dog in its own country (Japan). It was well loved in Europe by plasma affectionados after Pioneer's exit. But it lost the plot after G30/V30 series' & became stingy in honouring warranties.

Can't help thinking that OLED was its only chance to win it's customers back, although with Samsung's10-fold investment in OLED R&D, it stands no chance.

Bigboss, have to agree with you 100%

This is real sad. I hoped Sony and Panasonic together could manage to compete with the Koreans on the OLED front, which I also believe is their only chance for a comback on the TV market.
