Ive viewed this tv in the sony center and were blown away by the quality of the picture and i must say the price. I can shop around for a slightly better deal but is it worth the 500-800 differance from the competition like samsung ect. Am i going to pay a premium for the name? Also its only, i say only 200 hertz when other manufactures are selling 240/400 hertz models. Again is this truly better. i own a 50 samsung plasma and its 4 years old and i fancy 3d veiwing to match up with the ps3, basically is it worth the money?

Only you can decide whether it's worth the extra cost over the samsung, if you have an AV amp it might be worth investing in something like the Sony 570 blu ray player also, as the ps3 can't do 1080p 3d and high def. audio at the same time, I'm guessing this TV will deserve a better source. Just a suggestion.

ok so let me get this right, if i use the ps3 for 3d it will only do 720p 3d. so i will need a bundle to do the true picture that the sony kdl can handle

It can do one or the other, either half definition 3d with HD audio( dolly true HD / Master Audio) with a 1.3c HDMI or full HD 3D with STD. Def. Audio.

It has a 1.3 HDMI socket and can not handle the bandwidth of both. ( just remember, this would only effect you if you run your sound through a AV amp).

If you sending your sound direct to the TV it does not matter as the TV would down mix it to stereo anyway.

ps3 cant do 1080p video and hd audio

I dont know where you got this information from?!?! i own both an older 60gb ps3 and a newer slim 250gb ps3, and they can both do 1080p video, i think you have to have the newer models for straight up hd audio without using an optical cable, i have played Black Ops in 1080p 3D! my advice is to get a dedicated Bluray player and not use your ps3 as i can tell the differance between them, and yes you need a 1.4 HDMI for 3D.

my surround will only handle dolby d multichannel and ex anyway so the ps3 will still work in 1080p 3d with 1.3?

No, if you want 3D you have to have a 3D TV, a 3D source (PS3) and an HDMI that is v1.4 i recommend the QED referance cables

Most ps3 games are still 720p and even some the ones that are 1080p are just upscaled 720p and are not native 1080p this is the same for xbox! Even though microsoft always state that games are 1080p on game cases which is not true! At least sony don't do that!some games you also have to disable 720p to achive 1080p. othing wrong with my ps3 this is a common thing that games mags like edge write up!
