I recently purchased this TV folowing teh 32" supertest in the March issue. IN general I am very pleased with the set.

I have my PS3 connected via a Linx HDMI, which is fairly budget I know. I have a few questions which I hope someone can help with regarding this set up:

1. The supertest review states that the TV can accept a 1080p signal. However, when I run teh set up tests on my PS3 it states the maximum signal achievable is 1080i, and that 1080p is "out of reach". Is this something to do with the budget HDMI cable I am using or was the review factually incorrect?

2. What is the difference (in terms of quality) between 1080i and 1080p?

3. Can anyone explain how I can get the 'HDMI Control' function to work between the TV and PS3? I have the function turned on on the TV, but there does not appear to be a similar setting on the PS3. Therefore, when I run the 'find HDMI devices' funtion on the TV, it doesn't recognise that the PS3 is attached.

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

Hi there,

In answer to questions 1 and 2, my TV is also capable of accepting 1080p (though it's an HD ready TV so can only output 720p), but the PS3 also detects 1080i as the best signal. However, you should find if you force it to 1080p, this works fine. The difference between the two is i stands for interlaced and p stands for progressive. An interlaced signal updates every other line on each frame, whereas progressive updates every line on each frame. Progressive should therefore seem a lot smoother. However, unless your TV can actually display a 1080p image i.e. It's a full HD set, it's not worth worrying about. On a 32" set, I don't think you could tell anything even if the TV could output 1080p natively so it's definitely not worth worrying about!

doing a bit more research online, there are several forums where many hundreds of people cannot get a 1080p signal out of their PS3. Awaiting delivery of a a DVD HDD recorder which is capable of upscaling dvds to 1080p, so should find out whether the TV is the problem!

i think there may be a setting on the TV which will have something to do with this, maybe have a fiddle with the remote and look through all settings on the menu?

Have you tried forcing the PS3 to output 1080p and see if this works. It's in the display settings somewhere - just choose Manual and tick the box for 1080p. If the picture disappears, it can't do it. On mine, it displays fine, but I just don't get a little information message saying what resolution it's working in if it's outputting at 1080p which isn't a major worry.
