Hi,

I was looking at this package due to its minimal speaker size. However, am I right in thinking there is only 1 HDMI socket on the Sony?

I have a PS3, Sky+ and 1080P tv that I want to make the best use of (Blu-ray movies etc) and I believe the best way to hook these up would be(and correct me if im wrong):

PS3 ---HMDI---> Speakers

Speakers ----HDMI---> TV

Sky+ ---RGB Scart----> TV

So that being said, the DAV-IS10 is going to limit the maxium potential of the other components?

Thx for any comments

I have the same issue with my DAVIS - I want to connect PS3 (for blu-ray use) and now have SKY HD. How can I connect both ? Think there is only one optical input on the DAVIS ?
What should I do guys ?

Andrew Everard:

You're correct - and the HDMI is an output only, to connect to the TV.

Ah right, thanks Andrew.

I think I might re-look at separates then but if I was to advise this for my brother with a similar set up would this be the standard config:

DAV --(hdmi)--> tv

BD-player ---(optical sound) ---->DAV & -----(hdmi)---> tv

Sky + ---(optical sound) ---->DAV & -----(RGB Scart)---> tv

Cheers

that age old question about layout:

I'm sure I have seen a couple of examples on your site or in the mag but I really cant find them now so...which of these two would you recommend or would you suggest an alternative.

We typically sit on sofa 1....

Have you considered the new Sony HT-IS100. Looks the same as Dav-IS10 with uprated little speakers. There is no DVD player, but it sounds like you might not need one as you have the PS3. It has 3 HDMI inputs and 1 output to the TV. It also accepts LPCM thorugh HDMI so you can enjoy the high def sound on your Blu-ray movies. I have just bought and am very impressed with the sound.

Sorry to bring back a old thread but I was on hols and just wanted to thank Termi and Andrew for your replies. The HT looks like it meets my needs perfectly - I presume they perform as well as the DAV?

I'll also have a look at that speak positioning suggested. Thanks a load

Hi Andrew,

My query is about connecting my TV to the DAV IS10 in order to get the best sound from the TV via the IS10 speakers.

How can i go about it? TV is 32 inch Samsung LCD.

I notice on my TV rear panel only analog audio output

Could you pls advise ?

thanks for your revert , professorhat.

Is it the same if i use a two RCA phono --- 3.5 mm or two RCA phone interconnects at both ends?

ALso does a more expensive interconnect deliver a distinctly better sound?

I'd like to clear something up about linking a PS3 to my DAV-IS10 in order to listen to SACDs or watch Blu Ray.

Sony's helpline has told me (twice) that an optical cable will allow me to hook up the PS3 to the DAV-IS10 and get the multichannel sound, but your recent "ultimate guide to television" has a page about the PS3 and says "you don't get multichannel outputs to allow audio decoded onboard to be sent to a suitable ... standalone cinema system."

So I'm not sure now. Can I get multichannel sound with an optical cable from the PS3 via the DAV-IS10 or not?

Thanks.

Yes, you can get multichannel sound, but not high definition multichannel sound. There's not enough bandwidth on the optical link to carry Dolby HD and DTS-HD, so they get downconverted, or the player uses the standard Dolby Digital or DTS tracks on the disc. It will also work fine with DVDs, as of course these have the lower resolution standard DD/DTS tracks
