Hi folks,

does anyone have any experiance with Sony CD Players ???

never really come into contact with anything other than speakers and mini-disc.

there is one here : SONY CDP

Looks quite nice and has good reviews.

what does everyone else think - is it as good as it looks ?

My mother in law has one it is reasonable for sound, ergonomics are excellent - they used to make very good budget players. NAD and later Cambridge players are a step up but command higher prices second hand.

The '930 you linked to is an excellent player. Built like a brick err... house and great sound quality. If you can get it for less than about £120 then I'd say it would be money well spent.

Secondhand CD players can be a minefield though- seek assurance from the seller that it is in good condition before committing.

They made some excellent high end ones too, the SCD5400-ES of late being one, but many of their earlier ES models were very good too.

never heard one before, but there are many long threads in US forum raving about the latest sony xa5400es, it's a sacd/cd player and many buy this one to replace their much more expensive cdp. apparently it's an all rounder with superb musicality. It's cheaper than its predecessor.

excellent - i'll keep my eyes open for them on ebay see if I can get one cheap!!

Thanks for the advice!

Hi CJ

I have had the Sony for about 5 years, sounds great through my Marantz 7200 amp,I have just bought a pair of Atlas Equator Mk2 connects replaced my old Van Den Hulls, best £48 I have ever spent, what a difference in sound quality, fantastic

Get the Sony if you can well worth the money

I still have that cd player although i don't use it much anymore, anything in particular you would like to know about it/

It's built like a tank, has 3 filters which do have quite an affect on the sound, has an optical output so you can connect it to an external dac if you wish, hi fi choice considered it one of the finest cd players under 1000.00 what hi fi gave it 5 stars, can't really fault it, the sound quality is very good, has a stabiliser to ensure the cd can't jitter though i don't know if that's a gimmicky thing.

I have used the previously model of Sony, the XB820, for near 9 years until now, and it's a good player, with delicate treble, great midrange and decent bass.

Good the detail too, but not so much.

A warm and full body soundstage.

The three filters change the sound in a almost inaudible way, thought the filter nø3 is the "warmer", and the first one is the "more open".

It's still working, but from 2 days ago i repleced it with a new player, the Nad c565...

I could not believe to my ears...it's like night and day...the Nad is 10 times better than old Sony , in every music-aspect...

Simply stunning player, for detail, presence, voice,bass,dinamic...maybe just a little less-thin body...but great soundstage anyway.

And is pratically "out of box", just 3 hours of burn-in from yesterday...

But structurally Nad is obviously more delicate and "fragile" than Sony, that is really a tank...in 9 years never a problem... never.

So...If you like a delicate,no tiring and full sound, take the Sony, it's still a good player.

But it's correct to let you know that today there are many players ( more expansive, of course) that outclass the Sony.

🙂
