Sony Bravia 9 (K75XR90)

Google TV is the main reason I won't consider another Sony TV. To hear that the latest model is still suffering from interface issues cements this view.

This was suppose to be the dogs doughnuts! Clearly not though and way overpriced.

not sure where WhatHifi got their prices from - they're entirely wrong.

The OFFICIAL Sony USA price for instance of the 75" Bravia 9 is $3499, not WhatHifi's stated $4000 - and no doubt discounts of some degree will be available.

The Bravia 9 is already available for delivery here in Thailand for equivalent to that Sony US price.

Worst aspect i've seen is Audio system volume on screen display whever volume is changed say on a connected Sonos - it is hideous, enormous and stays on screen for a preposterous number of seconds, and can not be toggled off (was never an issue on previous LG screens).
Using our old Google Chromecast for TV 4k or whatever absurd name it has gets you around that issue as does using an Apple TV box - and as a bonus on the chromecast dongle the 2 App buttons CAN be remapped to whatever app you want.

I have been looking at the Sony Bravia 7 in 65-inches but don’t quite know what to make of it.

Never understood why SONY didn’t see fit to make the BRAVIA 9 available in smaller 55in & 65in sizes for the European/UK market, when homes/rooms here on average tend to be smaller than in North America(?)

In our use case: room having a number of glazed doors & windows with lots of natural light, TV in use for 16 hours or more per day, watching variety of SDR & HDR content, subtitles always on, PS5 gaming secondary, and having had to replace OLED TV’s before their time owing to insurmountable burn-in & overheating problems etc., for our needs the SONY BRAVIA X95L mini-LED was the way to go…for the time being at least. Especially after i managed to grab one with the aid of a hefty near-£1,000- discount off the original SRP.

Besides. The performance differential between the best mini-LED TV’s vs QD-OLED TV’s isn't so clear-cut. At least for our brightly lit room & our use case. Even less so once our X95L was calibrated.

Only wish SONY had manufactured the smaller sized 65in & 75in X95L’s with the slightly better spec’s. ie. more local dimming zones, improved native contrast levels etc. of the 85in model.

Hard to gauge & compare the BRAVIA 9 or X95L’s respective picture performance through a magazine/online review or YT video. But from my brief experience viewing them both in store, the SONY B9 is a step-up in performance in a few respects over last year’s X95L. And in comparison to other Full Array LED, Mini-LED or QLED TV displays.

However. Even if the SONY B9 were available here in the UK at the 65in size, personally speaking, i don’t know whether i could justify the considerable jump in price. Unless perhaps they’d included a markedly better ie. less problematic, more efficient new display technology eg. dual-cell/dual-layer mini-LED/micro-LED screen, more HDR format support eg. Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, HD10+ Adaptive etc. & better connectivity eg. improved Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet port, 4 x HDMI 2.1 4K/120Hz@48Gb/s, 2 x eARC ports, sub-output, USB-3 ports etc.

My tuppence worth.

Best regards.

Bob.

The local dimming problem mentioned in this review has existed for years on all Sony LCDs to some degree. It can be mitigated by disabling the AV Sync function in the Audio settings, but this obviously has some drawbacks as it means not everything will always have the correct audio sync. It occurs because the local dimming algorithm does not take audio sync into account. It's bothered me enough on my X90K to consider getting an OLED next time.
