Sony BDV-E370 connection help

Hi All,

i'm a bit green on the following please help,

i'm thinking of getting the Sony BDV-E370 but see it's got no HDMI inputs and only 1 optical in, i want to connect a sky box and playstation 3 to it, do the optical splitters work and do they have a switch on them and will i get the correct sound through an optical lead.

Optical splitters do work and most have a manual switch (though some of the more expensive ones may also come with a remote control).

As to the correct sound, no issue with Sky HD, but with the PS3, you won't get HD audio through the optical connection, but you will get 5.1 from DTS / Dolby Digital soundtracks. Depends therefore what you're using the PS3 for, but I'm guessing you'd use the E370 for Blu-Rays though so don't think this is a major issue as, from what I can gather, very few games have HD soundtracks.

Or you could use an optical to coxial converter, and utilise the spare coxial input on your E370

It might make setting up your E370 as a 'hub' a little easier, though I have no idea on whether this has any impact on sound quality (though in theory it shouldn't).
