hi,I have just bought the sony bdp-s370 to replace my 350.I have the yamaha dsp-ax763 amp all set up aswell, the problem i have is just watching the new karate kid film and noticed on the amp it had pcm lit up and not dts hd ma.I made sure this was set correctly on disk so obviously i have a setting wrong on the player but not sure which one!

Should be simple: change the settings in the audio menu from PCM to Dolby Digital and DTS. That way your receiver is decoding the audio rather than the 370.

I too am really confused by this. I've had my kit a while and still don't know whether my amp or 370 is doing the decoding.

I've just stuck Avatar BD in and selected the Audio Decoder to display on the amp and it reads 'PCM'. The film is in DTS HD Master Audio. Going to the 370's Audio Settings menu there's an option 'Audio (HDMI)' - the options are 'Auto' or 'PCM'. It was on PCM so I've changed it to Auto but it still reads 'PCM' on the amp...

I'm thoroughly confused!!

OK. Re-reading an old thread helped...

I've not got a BD's audio format (eg DTS HD) to display on the amp. Am I to assume then that the amp is now decoding whereas before it was the BD? ... as it doesn't sound much different!

Why would it sound much different? A tiny bit different perhaps

Only that the general consensus seems to be that amps to a better job of decoding than players...

thanks guys it was the bd audio mix turned on now everything sorted cheers

Does it sound better? I think mine now sounds a little 'fuller'...

I know that when I was playing with my Sony str-800 amp, it wasn't until I found that the AFD setting was used in conjunction with "direct" on the bdp I actually got the proper sound. I'm not sure what the AFD equivalent is on your amp, though.

roger06 not had chance to really test out yet.I have a four year old that keeps me busy!Hopefully get to test tonight with some more of generation kill blu-ray.

Yeah I know what you mean - I have a two year old and another due on Sunday! I can only really put Wall E on when he's around.

I put Gladiator BD on for a bit earlier though and it's definitely an improvement. The rears in particular seem to have come into play more, so much so that I may even need to turn them down a half db.
