Hi, i bought this blueray player and the image is excellent. Im having problem with sound tho. When watching a DVD i have to have my TV on 100 which is full! When watching freeview its on about 30. But 100!! for a dvd and its still not that loud. Anyway my girlfriend got me the sony dav-f200 home cinema for xmas so i thought that would fix it. When watching a DVD on the home cinema the sound is AMAZING and so so loud and basey. But if i watch using the sony blue-ray s350 player...the same problem. I have to have the home cinema on full blast to hear anything. Whats going on? Is the sony blueray player just rubbish at sound? How do i improve this? What am i doing wrong? Any help please much appreciated.

im no expert but worth a try what lead are you connecting the blueray to tv and amp ? also is there in the menu of the blueray player an output setting like s video or component , is there a sound output optical or digital it sounds like to me that you are not getting the full signal from the player if the setting was wrong you wont get fully connected , well worth checking i think imho

Well blue ray to tv is obviously connected by HD. A qed hd cable. And in the blueray player settings i have the choice of HDMI, Coaxial/Optical or sterio analogue. I have it set to HDMI. Sound is lame.

I have connected the blueray to the home cinema by using audio cable that has 1 red and 1 white.

You'd need two separate set-ups for the Tv and the Home Cinema system anyway. ÿI imagine the Blu-Ray player is connected to the TV by HDMI cable. ÿThat can carry audio as well as pictures. ÿHowever, you still need to choose '2ch PCM' in the Audio settings to downmix the surround sound signal into stereo for your TV (p 44-5 of the manual). ÿAlso, go to the Dolby Digital and DTS menus and select 'Downmix PCM' in both. ÿI think you also have to select 'TV mode' in the Audio DRC menu (p 46).

Although your player should now change surround sound signals from discs into stereo, it would still be wise to select the stereo soundtrack on the disc itself where you're given that option.

ÿHope that helps - it is complex. ÿIf you're not using HDMI, you'll need different settings!ÿ

Hi ok thanks. OK so thats the best set up yes for a sony bdp-350 blue ray and sony dav-f200 home cinema. Just tried and it has made it a bit louder. Thanks. Another question, whats the best cable to connect blue ray to home cinema? I currently use a cable that has one red and one white(dont know the name for it). Will this do or should i use a digital optical cable whatever this is?

Yes an optical digital cable will give much better sound than the analogue connections from the BD player to the DAV-F200. It will enable the player to deliver Dolby Digital/DTS 5.1-channel sound for the system's surround processing to work on.

Thanks i have ordered one. Im still having trouble tho. When i play dvd on the home cinema the base is window smashing/plate rattling amazing. When i play dvd on blue ray player there is none of that. Just good sound but no deep base from the sub? Why is this. Is it because im not using the optical cable?

Sorry - I just re-read your original post. ÿAs Andrew said, you need to connect the blu-ray player to the home cinema system using an optical cable. ÿAt the moment, all you're getting is a stereo feed and the sub is probably not working at all - which explains the rather weedy sound.
