Apart from the lens shifting (from 16:9 to 2.35:1) is there any appreciable difference between the bargain basement 285 and the slightly (ahem) more expensive 385?

The quality of the lens usually differs between price points, and sometimes picture processing.

you often get a bit more contrast as you go up the range as well, this might be negligable in real life

That's the lens shift thing I was asking about, right? Switching from 16:9 to 2.35:1 and back without manual intervention?

dynamic iris is not a fixed brightness level - it will increase and reduce brightness by closing and opening the iris as per the scene.

Its a horrible feature not worth paying extra for

Main thing I will be looking for is something that switches between 16:9 and 2.35:1 without having to get on a stepladder or fish another remote from down the back of the sofa...
