I am due to upgrade my Samsung 32 R87BDX, for a new Sony 1080p set. I have targeted the above tv's as they are in my price range and both seem to have good specs. I have seen the 40w2000 in a local department store on sale for £749 reduced from £1000 and the 40v3000 on sale to £800 from £1000! I know the 40w2000 won product of the year a couple of years ago, but would like to know whether the 40v3000 would be worth getting as it is a newer model? Does anybody out there have any good advice to give? I would be using my PS3 as a Blu-Ray player and a Sony DVD 970 Recorder as an upscaler (both HDMI) Thanks, Paul.

Those prices seem quite high and you can definitely find better deals online. If you're dead set on an LCD, I'm pretty sure that you could find a Sony W3000 for the same money. If you could stretch your budget to nearer £1000, you could get the new Sony W4000 which is superior to all of those and won a recent group test in the 37-40inch category. Also, have you completely ruled out a plasma? For £700 you could get a Panasonic 42PX80 plasma which will knock spots off both the W2000 and the V3000 for general viewing. Ok, it's not Full HD but that hardly matters if your sitting more than 6 ft away.

Is £1000 the best price you have seen for the 40w4000? My budget probably could stretch to that, especially if it is a far superior T.V for the money! I would cosider a Plasma, but it's just habit buying LCD now! Thanks for your advice!!!

Thanks, Paul.[/quote] I will answer your question. The W2000 is the LCD that I have. It is brilliant. £749 is not a little dear at all - it's a steal. You cannot find them online anymore as Sony stop making lines once new ones are brought in. The W2000 won lots of awards and it was £1800 originally. I paid £1200 for mine last year and the cheapest I've seen it before they sold out was £850 - my brother in law got one for that price. I admit, I've not seen the newer models in action, but I really don't see how much better you can get. One thing I will say is that if you are not going to connect it with Sky HD, upscaling DVD or even better Bluray, you won't see it at it's best.

Not doubting the quality of your set but he is going to be using his PS3 as a Blu-Ray player so he might as well get a an up-to-date model that can handle 24fps properly to get the smoothest picture since he can afford it. The W3000 and W4000 were both really well reviewed and considered superior to the W2000.

One said it was the best ever LCD tested they have tested. And its 5 stars in WHFI.

Read the reviews and then go and see the TVs
