Festive greetings - I hope people are still enjoying the cold meat and mustard sandwhiches - the best part of Xmas for me!

I am being won over by the simplicty of the following idea...

Two new 2nd gen Sonos Play 5 speakers in Stereo, into one my CD player and into the other my record player - this gives me access to all music options I currently have and will ever need.

My Dalis have alienated me since I recently connected to Bluetooth only to discover the volume went automactically to 100% and really frightened my 6 week old to the point where my wife nearly smashed them up!!!

I already have two Play 1s and they are so "wife friendly" in terms of control, ease of use, etc I am thinking of moving side ways and going for two Play 5s in stereo..

thoughts??

If the volume on your Bluetooth source was not set at 100 percent when this happened then yes, it's unacceptable. If 100 percent volume is a 'default' on your Dalis after power off/on then that also is unacceptable.

I know from experience that the last volume settings used - on AirPlay and Bluetooth - for all devices (Mac, iPad, iPhone) are 'remembered' so is it possible you - inadvertently - left the volume that high yourself by accident?

Not sure how you would connect the cd or turntable to the Sonos.

The new play:5 retains the 3.5mm line-in from the old play:5 (it has dropped the headphone socket however). Both can be used in a stereo pair, so he'd just need the appropriate phono to stereo jack lead (and a phono stage if the TT doesn't have one obviously).

Haha - fantastic comments thanks all!

Chebby - you are right in all aspects, and it could have been my lack of knowledge that led to the volume issue, but that means the system is not user friendly enough for me if it allows such a fundamental mistake which can damage hearing in the worst case...

At least with a Sonos I can see from the app where the volume is set

i have written to Dali tech support to get advice but I understand the 2nd gen Play 5 is a great product so the fingers are getting itchy! I am also convinced the SQ between the Dalis and Sonos is fairly similar if my Play 1s are to go from so not down grade by any means

Evidentally the new Play:5 is an extremely good speaker and a stereo pair is a serious setup. I understand however they go VERY loud, so keep an eye on that volume control.

Title was simply tongue in cheek Vladimir, childish would have been to genuinely believe I wouldnt be welcome here should I use a Sonos system. Of course that isnt the case but I reached out for opinion based on genuine interest to my situation

thanks anyway,

it's not hi-fi - but it does sound very good for what it is. Plug it in a different room. Good in the bedroom/garage/garden/kitchen etc. I am sure a lot of hi-fi aficionados don't mind using one. I find it very agreeable.

You posted about a Sonos system in the hi-fi section. I thought we were all going to have a laugh. Again, my mistake.

Don't know what you mean there. And I wasn't referring to you as the comedic poster - I've no probs with a Sonos post.

I know youre good with my post, in fact you gave sensible constructive feedback which I value - all good Tonky

My "dirty fingers" comment references a different post in the HIFI section tonight regarding someones brother eating food and then handling CDs and getting dirty marks on them...

Comedy gold on here tonight (for a change)

I certainly find it endlessly amusing the number of people who will write off the play:5 as "not hi-fi" without ever hearing a stereo pair of them and yet any other active speaker is treated as the second coming...

Noooooooooooo, the worst part of Xmas by a mile. Definitely not welcome. Actually, about as welcome as cold turkey sandwiches!

I'm confused. Do you think you were welcome here before?
