Hi people,

A Sonos question from a complete audio/techno idiot!

I don't currently have an amp (or a stereo system of any sort) but just a laptop.

Do I need an amp or can I just buy 2 or 3 zp120s (depending on how many rooms i'll need the music) along with the controller which would then enable me to play music through the speakers?

I am thinking about buying a buffalo linkstation so I could then stream music from there to the sonos without needing the laptop to be on.

Is there anything else I need to think about bar the sonos itself, the speakers and the NAS drive?

Thanks!

The ZP120 has amps built in, so yeah that's all you need - Sonos doesn't need any software running on the NAS (I learned recently) so as long as the music files are on there you're away...

And James Bond (well, Daniel Craig) has a Sonos system....

So do Jonathan Ross and Chris Moyles, apparantly.

That's good to know - easier to get past my wife who was quite happy with the tinny laptop!!

Yeah Moyles mentions it quite frequently on his Breakfast Show, not by name obviously (it's the BBC after all), he seems extremely happy with it.

You need to have at least one SONOS box connected by ethernet directly to your router therefore you might need a SONOS Zonebridge (approx £70) if none of the ZP120's are going to be in the same room as your router, unless you're willing to run an ethernet cable from the ZP120's to the router.

Thanks for that. I have seen comments on forums before about performance problems when linked wirelessly. Wireless would be the best option but I think on that basis I may have to re-arrange a few wires from the telephone line! (I was also hoping to hide the NAS in some cupboard somewhere out of view but may have to rethink that).

You can still do that, it's not too hard to run an ethernet cable into a cupboard is it?
