Softer top, dali zensor 1

Aragon 2 m Optical audio interconnect (the danish hifi club's own brand, hifi klubben as it's called in danish, is founded by peter lyngdorf who makes dali speakers, amplifiers like the lyngdorf and the steinway lyngdorf speakers) from my motherboard to my Denon DRA-F109, 2x1.5 m Audioquest SLX FLiP 14/4 and Isoacoustics stands for my Dali Zensor 1.

Most of the time the sound is very good and with good records, the bass is actually quet good but never boomy and anoying.

I am using them with my 27" pc screen between the speakers and as dali recommends they are not toed in, that help's the top not to be so bright, intrusive, loud, normally i don't play so loud when i am sitting less then 1 meter away from them, 40 out of 60 is sometimes very loud and i do not dare to play so loud, that i can hear some distortion (to find the spl limited).

The bass from the zensor 1 is most of the time not so powerfull, so an open and slightly bright sounding (but neutral) speaker like my zensor 1 could sound more bright intrusive because of the lack of bass. Some times when i play loud (havn't tried to max the amp, full power) i get an anoying top, that's not so soft and smooth, i know at these levels i better not sit less then 1 meter away from my speakers, when i move 2-3 meters away from my speaker the top dosn't sound as much intrusive, bright, but not perfect within the limiteds of my room, the system i have and the recording (sound quality) of the music.

I listen to a lot of youtube videos(always hd if it's possible), about 99.9% of my music is uncomprimised (wave lossless) my pc is sending the signal to my reciver (with built in dac) with 24 bit and 192000hz (i feel it sounds better when i set it to max, smoother top/tweeter, low mp3 is more agressive, metallic in the high frequencies), someone said on whathifi that the denon dm38dab sounds colored when using the bass and treble eq, so i tried it and in the bas they do sound a bit colored when i enhanced it (didn't thought the bass sounded better when i enhanced it with wmp 12), i am someone who just enjoy the different music there is and how it's recorded, i am not someone who always tries to get a loud bass no matter what music i am listening to, in fact i hardly never use and eq.

What can i do to make music sound more soft in the top(tweeter) at "normal" high levels?

Is my system very analytic and more revealing then other systems, when i listen to some music that's not recorded perfectly (sound quality)?

I would buy an amp that has more power than the Denon DRA-F109. Buy a Marantz PM6004 or Pioneer A-30 to give the Zensors the power they need.

More power = more control.

Just my opinion ;)

My amp has about 55w in 8 ohm and about 90-95w i 4 ohm i should think that's enough ;)

Seems like you need a different set of speakers. If you think the bass is not enough and the top end is not soft enough. I would suggest Boston Acoustics A26 - good bass and never sound harsh.

By the way HiFi speakers are generally not made to be listening to up close. You ideally need active speakers for your desk. Maybe monitors instead.

I had the adam a5 a couple of month ago to try, they didn't had enough power for the top/tweeter and the midbass was to boomy, so i returned them, the monitor guy said it was adjusted wrong, an showed me how to give the tweeter more power (not the eq which i tried), but at the time i returned them i allready have bought someting else , they sounded very soft and had no listening fattigue(tweeter).

I am using my zensor 1 like monitors and speakers like creative, logitech, together with my computer (and 27" screen), but compared to pc speakers, i use a good speaker made out of wood and not plastic,a good speaker stand, a power full amplifer and good speaker cable, interconnect.

Since i made this topic/thread i have gotten a jamo sub 200 so i don't have any problems with not having enough bass although i havn't adjusted it enought so i have as good bass as i can have with the limited of my room.

Have thought about the Boston acoustics a26 (they are still 20% of the speakers), but havn't found any one who would buy my speaker at a resonable price so i could buy the bostons.

As somebody mentioned in a thread on whathifi, using the eq on the denon m-38dab would color the sound and i had to try it on my denon mini reciver, i also thought the sound got colored.

I don't know if the system i have, has a bright sound or is very revealing, analytic (at low levels the sound is good, nice, open and clear), i just know that many have said denon in general to have a bright sound. I sent an email to dali about the crossover recommendations, they told me when i asked about the sound for the zensor 1's that the dali zensor 1 have an tendency to put more weight/focus on the treble/tweeter, my audioqest FLX SLiP 14/4 is also surpose to have a very clear and open sound, that's even better then the chord cable whathifi has award 2-3 times in a row as the best speaker cable of the year. Mabye the sound for my hole system is to bright intrusive at high levels?

My reciver goes op to 60 and it's start to get intrusive, change, gets less smooth about 35-40 (which often is loud) something between loud and almost full power, even my cheap sony surround system is more pleasent to listen to a high volume, it dosn't have the same focus on the high frequency's as my zensor 1's have, although it dosn't have a perfect sound, not as open and clear as my zensor 1 but more easy to listen to at high levels, where the sound is less bright intrusive in the top, then you might expect for a cheap surround system

it can be issue of cables, optical cable might influence such highs. In my case,I got soft ,grain free highs, when soldered interconnects with mundorf solder ,which contains silver ,gold etc.. So far it was cheapest way
