Finally saved enough for the new LG OLED Ultra HD 55" Flatscreen, is this the best there is at the moment? Is it worth waiting for Panasonic's equivalent. Not interested in curved panel though.

lg oled all the way. The panasonic oled is not worth the significant price increase for the minimal improvements.

Checkout the HdTV test shootout for more info.

It's likely to use the same, or a very similar, LG panel. So it really depends whether the Panasonic engineers can improve on the picture processing and drive technology already developed by the people who make the panel.

The LG flat Oled is the best taking all factors into account, but next year HDR range will be twice as good so worth the wait a bit longer. If you can't wait go for it. People on AVForums are returning it to Currys if they are not 100 per cent happy with it.

You can THX settings on the Panasonic, but you would be wise to get it calibrated anyway. Both use the same panel at present.

So what about Samsungs SUHD 110 inch 8k tv shown at CES?, can play HDR content if you can find some gel 🙂
Yep, that's probably the best. *smile*

why are you asking what the best tv on the planet is when you are looking at lg OLED? Maybe take a look at the sharp at £120,000 I think?

hdr range TWICE as good? Nope. You of all people should know this isn't the case gel. Do tv technologies advance this fast? Especially not for LG..for even £2500 id expect 1000 nits of brightness never mind their retail of £5000! This is why I am waiting for my next tv in 5 or so years before jumping to OLED. OLED advances even slower IMO

A proper HDR content (not the ones streamed on Amazon) will be the biggest advantage of 4K. Looking at the number of years plasma or LCD have taken to improve, OLED technology in my opinion is doing extremely well. It's already competing on price, which is remarkable.

As the title of this thread asks about the best television on the planet, we should remember that there are brands that serve only what to people in the UK are the overseas markets - for instance Mitshubisi and Visio televisions in America, and I don't know how good the best of them are. For the UK, the Panasonic 65" 4K curved OLED is probably the best just now, but still not perfect.
