OK got my Sky HD box and my new Sony receiver with HDMI inputs and upscaling capabilities..........Am I better just to connect my SKY box directly to the TV with the HDMI cable and optical cable to receiver or would it be better to have it connected to the receiver and then on to the TV?

In theory, you're better off hooking it straight to the TV via HDMI as this is a straighter / shorter signal path. However, you may find the benefits of controlling the Sky input via one button through the amp for both picture and sound makes your life easier.

Depending on your receiver, there could be a performance benefit of routing it that way, too.

If your receiver has a 1080p upscaler it's possibly better than that in the Sky+ HD box - set the Sky box to output at Auto and then let the receiver upscale out to your TV.

Hi Clare, It's the Sony STR-D1A200ES........doesn't mean much to me but you'll probably know if it's capable of superior upscaling than the Sky box?

Thanks
