seriously considering Sky HD for xmas. Will the wife constantly moan about the cost of it? Is it worth paying out for a box and monthly subscription - is the picture quality noticeably different and what about programme choice and availabilty? would welcome feedback!!!!! and arguments for, of course!

To be honest there's not an awful lot of content, SKY ONE HD is misleading as loads of their content is SD. It's getting better, CH4 soonish and BBC HD so for £10 a month i'm happy. Also got my box for £149 five months ago, would not have paid £299 for it though.

I mainly watch/record HD movies and find myself re-watching some of the ones I've seen. Watched the spurs game today, I think sport looks great, really shows HD off. Strictly looks great too, you do tend to 'pine' for HD when not watching a program in it.

Some other highlights are HEROES, ICE TRUCKERS, JOOLS HOLLAND, TORCHWOOD

The big question is, what size is your TV. If it's smaller than 40" it's probably not worth investing in HD unless you sit 3 feet from it!!

My g/f is very happy with the purchase, I've got a Pioneer 428xd and Sky HD looks awesome.

GO FOR IT!!! You will not regret it. Yes, £10 a month, yes (£170 for me from Ebay) the box costs but come on, will you notice another tenner?? The picture and sound is superb. If you like sport, films, documentaries, the arts, music (Jools on BBC HD), then you can't lose. There are more channels that offer HD than you realise and the anytime tv packs lots of HD too.

For the majority of us who do not have Sky, though, the cost would be considerably higher as wouldn't we need to take out a Sky package to add the HD onto ? £600 per year seems a lot for the amount of HD broadcast material out there.

Go to Comet, £129 deal if you take Sky Talk (which is free anyway as long as you have a BT line).

For existing customers, it's around 33p a day, not really much to fork out...

Totally agree with David above........Currently I pay £38.00 a month and can't see the point in lining Mr Murdoch's pockets anymore. If it wasn't for my Son likling Football I would just have the basic package.

Of the HD channels on there too...what would I watch I ask myself, and once you have watched one programme it's repeated and repeated and repaeted.

I may be more tempted if I didn't have to pay the BBC's ridiclulous yearly Licence fee. Here I am paying £38 a month for SKY to include the BBC channels which I would be quite happy for SKY to block if I didn't have to pay £150 a year to the BBC as well. I think the BBC Licence fee should now be abolished and that the BBC should directly compete like all the other channels and also be allowed to advsertise.

I have also found that Standard definition SKY can actually be improved by using a 60cm Dish as opposed to that silly little Dish SKY give you when they install. The Higher Gain on a 60cm Dish can help prevent dropout due to bad weather.
