hi all need a little help.i have run a cable from rf2 to bedroom and tuned in etc all ok,the problem is although the picture is watchable it could be clearer.i have tried changing the rf channels from 68 all the way to 21 and still no joy.if i take the aerial in out of the sky box the picture is then perfect but of course i lose all my freeview around the house as this is taken into the loft and split to all rooms,i have also tried various attenuators directly to the back of the sky box and this does make a slight improvement now should i be placing this in the aerial line elsewhere?i really cant think of anything else to do.would be very gratefull of any help/suggestions many thanks

I had a similiar problem to yourself last year after fitting a new ariel, mast head amplifier and coax cable. Ended up with a very grainy picture. I eventually traced the problem to the mast head amp being set to max. I've turned it down to about 1/3 of the max and the sky picture through to my bedroom via RF2 is now perfect. Subsequently though this has affected the strength of the freeview reception to the bedroom, and I now tend to lose the lower strength channels in bad weather. A small price to pay as most of the viewing in the bedroom is Sky via RF2.

Hope this helps.

have you tried bypassing the sky box entirely for your aerial signals? - essentially, run the aerial input direct to the loft and then distribute it to the rest of the house with the signal from the sky box using a splitter on the amplifier's input (this will mean running an extra cable from the aerial but it worked for me

Hello. Excuse my ignorance, but it almost sounds like what we're talking about here is using the sky RF output and feeding it in to an aerial network, so that it can be accessed in another room with an aerial socket - is that right? E.g. you don't need to run a dedicated RF cable directly from the sky box to the second room?

Also I assume that you can't relay HD pictures in this way, but are the pictures still in widescreen?

You will need to find the best RF2 channel number on your SKY+HD.
This is somewhat hit and miss as it will depend on what local RF channels are also being received via your tv aerial.
Bear in mind that you may need to attenuate your local RF channels if they are too strong, or conversely boost them if they are not strong enough.
Its all about getting the right balance between the Sky+HD channel and the local channels.

Good quality cable and limiting the number of joins also helps.

Whilst an RF signal is not HD, yes it can be widescreen.

I don't route the aerial through the Sky HD box. I feed the RF2 outlet into a combiner with the aerial and then it goes to a Sky distribution amplifier. From there it goes to each bedroom and the dining room. I can get perfect Freeview in every room and of course Sky as well. As I use a Sky distribution amp it is possible to control the Sky box from any of the outlets, but I limit that to the master bedroom. If you set up the Sky box to 16:9 for the RF2 out then you will receive widescreen pictures on the remote TV's.

I live about a mile from the Crystal Palace transmitter so it is necessary to have an attenuator on the areial downlead.

Hope this helps.
