Sky DOESNT have HD sound. And you cant get 5.1 down HDMI either (Which I find really bad)

You need to connect a digital coax or toslink to get 5.1

Good so far...

smuggs:my girlfriend watching films on sky movies hd will hdmi give my amp 5.1 sound ok?

No. Sky HD only outputs stereo over HDMI. For 5.1-channel Dolby Digital you'll also need an optical digital audio link between the Sky+HD box and the amp.

Yes.

smuggs:listening to mtv HD {384} i have been told that the sound is in hd what does that mean and can that pass through hdmi?

No, the sound isn't in HD. It may be in Dolby 5.1 surround, or possibly stereo, but it won't be as high-definition as the Dolby HD or DTS-HD on Blu-ray Disc. And no, it still can't pass over HDMI from Sky+ HD to the amp. See my answer above about movie sound.

smuggs:what is HD all about?

High Definition. More picture lines than standard TV - 720 or 1080 instead of the 576 of standard definition TV, so better picture quality. Same goes for HD sound on Blu-ray Disc: more data, and thus better sound quality - more clarity, better dynamics and detail, and so on...
