I'm having Sky+ HD installed on Saturday and I'm hoping to connect it to my Denon 2310 receiver for 5.1 audio. I believe I need an HDMI cable and an optical cable to achieve this. If this is correct, can I connect both to the Denon or HDMI to the TV and optical to the receiver?

Also, do Sky supply either of these cables or are you expected to provide your own?

Thanks

can I connect both to the Denon or HDMI to the TV and optical to the receiver?Either, but you'll have to assign the optical to whatever HDMI input the Sky box is connected to if you choose the former.

You can connect both hdmi and optical to the 2310 or the hdmi direct to the tv and the optical to the amp. I have both into the Amp and it works great. Sky do provide a hdmi cable but not the optical cable.

Not doubting that everyone is right, but why doesn't the audio work via HDMI?

SkyHD boxes can only output stereo over HDMI, so you have to use optical or coaxial cable for DD 5.1 sound.
