To listen to your hifi.....

this is a strange thing to do. Rather than sitting in your favourite chair/place, try having a couple of hours on the floor. The reason I am suggesting this is purely for fun.

You get to hear your system sound differently. My experience, it rounded the treble off quite a lot, gave the bass a harder punch, and forced the soundstage a little harder at me.

after around 4 CDs, I've returned to my normal seat and the resulting sound is great. It is amazing how much the sound of speakers can change from moving just a few feet.

(I know this smacks of boredom, but I love messing around with my hifi, it's loads of fun)

Yeah, but then I didn't have any furniture to sit on.. Lol.

now, I have a lovely leather sofa to sit on. But I've got into the (strange) habit of sitting on the floor.

After a few hours, my butt needs a cushion, and my drinking arm needs a perch.

So, once I'm back on the sofa I'm proper surprised by the difference in sound. It's great.

I usually sit in the bath with music on and meditate... wthout any water. *clapping*

You are going to hate me for saying this: Try pair PMCs (GB1i if possible). They will give your system a whole new sound... no sharp treble, a smooth mid band and a punchy bottom end. I love Focals but not with my Pulse.

Maybe it's filled with ice, to make you feel at home.

It's hardly a surprise the treble rounds off when you're sat on the floor, the tweeters are no longer at ear level.

Interestingly most speakers have a much better, more even response with the tweeters above ear level than when they are below ear level, that is for speakers with tweeters above the bass/mid driver.

All to do with time alignment, most tweeter voice coils are well forward of the bass/mid coils so around the crossover point the output of the speaker as a whole is actually angled downwards.

One of the main reasons a rug on the floor between the speaker and the listening position is so important.

When sitting on the floor, presumably you get more of the low bass energy, that has originally been absorbed by the floor, transferred via your bottom, and then through your body to your inner ear.

'Turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so.' *biggrin*

Note to mods: no offense intended - one is in Japan, listening to hifi...on the floor.
