Hey

I have never really understood the pricing of Mac's, but after looking on ebay, they seem to hold their value.

Eg: they only tend to lose 100 ish in the first year or two, now if that was a PC is would have dropped over half.

I can get a Apple i5 13" for 900.00 but the same spec on PC is the samsung SF311 I think, and that is about 700.

Should I buy one, I had a play with one today and it was very well built and very responsive, Light and good battery.

Whats your thoughts.

The MacBook Pro is mid production cycle, so its a safe bet there wont be one for a while. I love my mbp, It is three years old and has retained about 60 % of its value. Macs tend to be cheaper for total cost of ownership, especially if you are the sort who actually pays for software :) I would take out the applcare, and if you have a student in your family its worth buying it in their name, as you save around 70% off the applcare and 10% ish off the laptop. I think they are giving away a £65 Mac App store voucher too?

One thing to consider, make sure if you buy now you get a free upgrade to Lion when it comes out.

If you have the cash I would buy one. Macs are quite well compared to most PCs. One of the reasons that the second hand machines are so expensive is the fact that most users don't replace Macs unless the have broken down. We have 2 Macs, one is over 4 years old, the other nearly 4. We have upgraded the OS's a couple of times and they run better than when we bought them.

Other people will buy a Mac more often because they can sell their old Mac.

Just make sure that you also buy an external storage option so you can make full use of Time Machine back ups. Any Mac you buy now also qualifies for a free upgrade to Lion (OS 10.7).

If you want to use Windows as well the Mac can run that natively through Boot Camp or in a virtual environment. You can even turn your Mac into a triple boot machine: Mac, Windows and Linux.

So did you get one in the end?

I just wanted to say that i'm also very happy with our macs. Was a full time windows user up until 2008 and made the switch and haven't looked back.

Very compatible with windows if you pick up the office for mac 2010 as well.

Best thing outside of the operating system is the battery life on the laptops... I must get close to 5-7 hrs on my 2010 macbook pro.

Yep agree with above excellent product imho. I use mine everyday for general use although not work essentially. It is the hub of my system and bought a 1.5tb iomega hard drive to backup to using time machine. My wife loves using it as it is excellent for aall her photos from her Canon SLR. Would def get the Applecare too
