Hi All

Being a complete novice to setting up these systems I thought I'd ask what cables/connections/ports to use to get the most out of the system I've just bought.

I have an LG 50PJ650, Sky HD, a PS3, Xbox 360 Elite, Wii and Onkyo HTS3305, and when I look at all the different connections at the back of these machines all I get is....confused

.

Ideally I want to use as much of the kit for surround sound with the best quality and the best picture possible.

Any advice would be great, but please be gentle as when I say novice I mean novice!

I have a few HDMI cables, and then any other cables that came with the machines, anything else will have to be bought.

Thanks

Use HDMI wherever possible, apart from the Sky HD, you'll need an optical digital cable to get Dolby Digital out of it, so you could send the HDMI direct to the TV, this will let you watch TV without having the amp on if you want.

PS3, use HDMI, I don't think the Wii has HDMI but I think it does have Component Video, so use that with another optical cable for sound and I assume the Xbox is HDMI so use that as well.

Connect the amp to the TV with an HDMI cable as well.

You should still have one HDMI input available (for a blu-ray player perhaps) and a coaxial digital audio input available if you wanted to add a CD player or music streamer or some such.

You can get an component lead for the Wii. It doesn't have an optical connection, however. Instead the component cable comes with L/R phono connections for sound. It does support some form of Pro logic IIRC

the_lhc:That's poor, never realised that, support Pro Logic 2 out of the analogue audio connection apparently.
That's the Wii all over, no HD picture, no HD sound, just cheap as chips, made to a price point and making nintendo a fortune. Great machines, love them
