This is my First Post on WhatHiFi forums !

So i got into Hifi through my job, I work in a guitar shop, unusual link. I saw some vintage dalesfords that we had aquired and thought they sounded great. It was then that i decided i want to have a decent sounding Hifi Purely for music, so i set about this.

I have only been in the Hifi game for 2 months or so but am so glad that i went down the route i did.

My Current and first set up !

Amp: 1979 Pioneer SA-508 - Drives my speakers brilliantly, simple and works brilliantly.

A Speakers: Mission M70 - Awesome bass response and great treble when needed awesome set of loudspeakers on paid £20 for em as well Bargain.

B Speakers: Mission Cyrus 760s - Brilliant set of speakers bought them for £10 because one of the clips is broken(doesnt affect performance or quality just have to improvise a bit) but again great bass and teble

Sub: Rel Q50 - This sub is phenomonal, the response is so low and the 12" driver is brilliant.

I love the sound of my current set up and all in all hasnt cost me a penny over £100 which isnt to bad for a first :)

I want to upgrade my 760s, but im not sure what to get to replace them (Well i was looking at some Leak2030s). Any ideas would be greatfully received.

I would love to hear about everyone elses systems(what youve got, what you want and what your first set up was)

Look forwards to hearing :)

Hey there Karamoo and welcome!

For replacement speakers to your 760's, have a look at the Dali Zensor 1's, excellent speakers. Also Monitor Audio BX2's, Both fantastic for the price and (quite rightly) they get fantastic reviews.

BX2s: £249

Zensors £179

My systems in sig,

Yeh my systems are great, but they're getting a little tired now, starting to have a few problems but the M-02's been excellent in its time,

Next amp I'm looking at will be either a Marantz PM6004 or NAD C326BEE (unless I strike it rich sometime soon and I'll get another Luxman probably, they are so underrated nowadays but so good imho)

Also I'm looking out for a cheap Squeezebox Touch, they were on Amazon last week at £139, (usually about £189), and someone posted on here in reply to my post about the offer, and I missed it by 30 minutes, gotta laugh,

Cheers

Hey Kakamooo welcome to whf, this is my current setup:

Panasonic Txp50G30B, Panasonic DMPBD310 Bluray player, B&O beolab 8000 (fronts), beolab 4000 (Centre), Beolab 6000 (Rears), Beolab 2 (Sub), Yamaha RXV3067 (AMP)- IMHO my setup is absolutely fantastic, had the speakers 18 years and they sound fantastic with movies and music, even the people that come to my place admire not only the looks but the brilliant sound that comes out of them. If I was to upgrade i would love to to get:

B&O Beovision 12 (65" plasma)

B&O Beolab 5 (Front speakers)

B&O Beolab 9 (Rears)

B&O Beolab 10 Centre

Sub - keep the same

The setup would kill me financially but none the less an awesome system, many people will disagree, sure, but to me nothing beats it (From the systems that i have heard)

I love marrantz amps, my uncle had one with some mission 702s and a bose centre, it sounded great, i dont know much about the squeezbox to be honest.

i know where you are coming from, when i was looking at amps i really had little to spend, i was looking at an 80s Dual amp, a Rotel one and a Quad, as well as my Pioneer, all of them are hard to get hold of and underated. I love the sound im getting at the moment just those 760s are starting to deteriate. My pioneer is 33 years old and is going strong.

Im not sure whether ill ever need to replace it until it dies but after a good clean it looks like brand new and not out of place either.

Hi there great looking set up, im a bit of a sucker for B&O subs i love them but i managed to get a REL sub at the right price, i came across some little B&O bookshelf speakers quite old around 80s i believe, but they where really quite small and not that powerful, so i sold them on. I think B&O make some awesome kit though. And for an upgrade that would be one hell of a system.

I had some Mission 760 speakers too. Cracking little speakers. Mine were the 760iSE version with a refurbished Pioneer amp and a Kenwood graphic equalizer.

I also used to have some Mission 760s. Mine came as part of a package called 'The System' that was a collaboration between Sansui and Mission at the time. Great set-up for the money and I remember it getting well reviewed in WHF at the time.

That 2.1 system looks pretty good !!!

Those ATCs look great, Floorstanders are definatly somthing that im considering.

At the moment i have my Mission M70s(Grey) Sat on some weitghted and spiked on top and bottom stands that are brilliant,

I have my 760s sat on a bookshelf at the moment, they are all hooked up and do sound great but just looking for somthing a bit more substantial.

Love my Rel Sub though a real good range and compensates for what my Speakers cant cope with, and doesnt struggle.

Yeah they are good speakers, but mine are getting on for 10 years old i believe and just dont sound as good as my M70s,

Ideally i want a decent set of Leak 2030s or 2060s but no one on ebay posts them (Being nearly 20kg each) which is a shame.

I generally find alcohol, and maybe some other stuff, makes any system sound pretty damn fancy.

Seriously.

And I don't worry about cables.

Not sure where its going, Speakers are sorted and dont think they will be changing any time soon.

The Luxman spins fine but not 100% sure the DL-103 is set up correctly, bit of tuning here to be done I think.

Quite happy with either the Sony S9000ES SACD/DVD player, and my Philips CD-850 as back up.

Would like to try one of the even bigger Sony ES amps based on experience with the 770ES.

My first foray into hifi with a Technics/Tannoy DC1000 system-

Then first seperates (Rega Planet Mk1/Primare A20/Rega R3 and Kef XQ1)

Then i went to Uni and it all went downhill - I have been through a lot of gear -

Hi KAKAMOOO

The 760's are good speakers. For an upgrade the excellent Monitor Audio's BX2's or Acoustic Energy Compact 1's are both worth a look. Alternatively going back to the nineties Cyrus 780 speakers are also worth seeking out as they'll offer a worthwhile upgrade.

The two systems which i currently use (when i have time that is) are -

Chord Electronics QBD76 DAC, ATC SCA2 Reference pre amplifier, ATC SCM100ASL Professional monitors and a C6 - SCM0.1/15 sub

Sony ST-SDB900 UK Edition tuner, Pioneer A-400 amplifier and Dynaudio DM 2/7 speakers

I would like to have a pair of ATC's SCM300ASL Professional monitors/2 x P4 monoblock power amplifiers

Naim Unitiqute feeding a Naim DAC, connected to a Naim Nait5i-2. Driving a pair of Tannoy HPD385/8 15" drivers in Lancaster Cabinets running Tellurium Q Black speaker cable.

Space and timing is superb, low end is exceptional in terms of tautness, depth and potential power. I know the speakers deserve a much better amp and superior streamer feeding the DAC.

The Tannoys were a recent 2nd hand bargain and having freshly reconed them they have opened my ears to what the system is producing. They really are very, very different to modern "fashionable small" loudspeakers!!!

First ever setup (at the age of 4!!) was an Amstrad RP10 Disco Record Player feeding a pair of Toshiba SS-10s (I think!). At that age I thought it was awesome (particularly the disco lights built in to the lid).

If you do change from the 760s to another pair of 2nd hand speakers bear in mind that, unless they can be easily serviced with original spare, they could be a very short listen!

try a pair of Focal 706Vs (£400 ish), or search out for a pair of 706S or (if you want a slightly softer presentation) Tannoy Sensys DC speakers

Hello and welcome.

My first 'proper' set up was a Technics system with a left to right tracking record deck into rubbish speakers, I loved it!

Then a Meridian CD player into a Kenwood SE amp and some Missions on Atacacama stands that I kept for about 15 years.

A few other bits and pieces to what I have now, which I really like, keep thinking about pre and power amps. though.......

The important thing is to keep enjoying the journey without forgetting enjoy and keep listening to the music.

It's a 34cm cube and weighs a bloody ton. It's very heavy for it's size.

I keep dropping hints to my girlfriend that it'd make a great TV stand in the living room but she isn't falling for it. I'll keep working on her though.

The Neutron sub weighs 26kg. Although this includes the two amplifiers for the Neutron speakers aswell as the subwoofers own amplifier.

Is there any chance of seeing some pics of your setup? It's always fun to see other peoples systems. :)
