im looking at buying some sennheiser hd 202 can. my housemate has some. v.cheap and a good sound fore my tastes. il be using them with a fiio E5 and LOD with mi iphone.

the only issue i have is the ridiculosly long lead. theyll only really be used for outdoor and train/bus duties.

will sound be effected if i snip, the lead, high quality solder and then heatshrink?

No it wouldn't affect the sound if done well, well nothing your going to hear.

A better solution would be to buy a new 3.5mm jack plug, cut the lead to the desired length then solder on the new plug though. This will last longer also as the heatshrink and solder joints will inevitably fail in time.

Well I tested all my cables to ensure signal integrity and they all still work. I am trying to source nice looking bananas that need soldering rather a clamp or screw fit to make some speaker cables.
