Screen for BenQ W1200

Hi,

I am looking for a 100 inch manual pull down screen that would best match the BenQ W1200 for around 200 pounds

Any recommendations appreciated.

Hi Jeff,

Tumbleweed usually blows through threads for projector screens, but hopefully can point you in right direction.

For £200 pounds you are going to be a bit limited in terms of optimising screen to projector.

Factors to consider will be the amount of ambient light in the room and the distance of the projector from the screen.

The more light in the room and further from screen, the more gain (reflection) you'll potentially need.

Also, I don't think there's a vertical lens shift on the 1200, so need to consider how far the ceiling-mounted screen needs to come down to align with the projector - i.e. how much black border to you need at top?
(different screens have different sized margins - I had to get extra black so that the screen viewing area would be at the right level for my projector.

Thanks for the response. Ambient light is pretty low (at the moment - we are considering getting extra windows in the future).

Distance from Projector to screen will be approx 3.5 metres.

I am looking to locate the projector under/on top of a coffee table.

I have looked at an online manual (http://www.projectorcentral.com/pdf/projector_manual_6108.pdf) and it shows for the screen/distance a vertical offset of 427mm (max). I need to measure up vertically the drop/vert offset to work out vertical border. - I think its going to have to sit on the coffee table looking at 427mm.

The screen will drop from behind a beam in the attic room. The height off the floor of the beam is approx 2.2 metres.

Am I underestimating the budget here?

I recently got a 92" electric screen well within that price range on eBay, there was also Crosby and Bown but they were out of stock.

From the figures, the BenQ is much brighter than my Sony HW15 (100 ansi) which is at about the same distance from screen.

I had to get a more specialist screen (1.3 gain) to compensate for the Sony being at the limit of its distance. So you should be fine with a 1.0-1.2 gain screen.

The screen I had before was a Beamax pull-up screen, which was great. I think they still make very good screens if you see one in that price range.

As you get more expensive in budget, then you start looking at electric, self-tensioned screens and things like that.
