I have to get a new scart lead in preparation for getting my new TV.

I am not sure whether to get 1m or 1.5m but seem to remember reading that a scart lead should be quite taut to give the best performance. Is this true?

The cable should not be tight but it is allways best to run as short a cable as possible as generally speaking the longer the cable the more chance of interference but on either a 1m or 1.5m there is nothing to worry about so if I were you I would go for the 1.5m cable to give that little extra room when wiring up.

so did your friends comparison of the th-42px80 and the tx-p42x10 reassure you about buying a new 37" panny or is the jury still out for you?

I haven't heard from her yet tvnewbie but have 'spoken' to enough people to convince me that this TV is really good and worth getting. I am off now to try to get a pm from John Lewis.

As soon as I hear from her though I will post on here to let you know.

Scottsgirl,

I've just bought a brand new QED AV4110 (RGB only) scart for about £12 of Ebay. I think it should be about £45'ish normally. It should be arriving today so I'll let you know what I think of it.

Hmmm, I can see the next big thing in cables & accessories - devices to ensure that all your cables are as taut as possible!

Hi Scotsgirl,

I got the QED AV4110 scart lead last night and have tried it out. The results are..........

Quite an inpressive difference to picture qualtity. The colours are more vibrant to the extent that I've had to "fiddle" with the TV settings as they became too overpowering. I must have had the colour set higher before to compensate for the old poor quality "freebie" cable. Also, the biggest difference I noticed was that there seems to be a three dimentiality (is that a word?!?) or "depth" to picture that wasn't there before. My wife also noticed an improvement with this lead fitted. The connectors are also a much tighter fit in the scart sockets. One thing I you need to be careful of though is that the lead is quite stiff (I presume due to the thinker conductors and upteen layers of various insulation so you may struggle to route it through any sharp bends). To give you an idea, a 90deg bend needs about 15cm of space. Also, I noticed there is another one of these on ebay at the moment for about a tenner with postage (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=370169980649). There may be others, just search for "QED RGB scart"

For info, this was fitted between a Humax 9200T PVR and a Sony 40Z4500 TV.

Hi Sam

Thanks ever so much for the review of the QEDAV4110.

I am used to a stiff lead as the Profigold I have just now is flat and difficult to manoeuvre.

I'll be using it with Humax 9200 as well. What do you think of it? I think it's a great piece of kit and wouldn't be without it.

Liz

I got a 1.5m scart lead but I think it might be too long as there is an awful lot of 'slack'.

Will this affect the performance?

The distance between my PVR and the Scart socket is about 90cm so not sure what length of scart I should get? The distance between my DVD Player and the HDmi socket is even less so, again, don't know what size of HDmi lead to get?

Any degradation that may differ between a 1m and 1.5m cable would be minimal if any and IMHO I doubt if you would see any differance Liz so I would stick with the one you have. The main problem occour when you are running longer cables say 5m+ so at 1.5m I think you are safe.

As to the length of your HDMI I personally tend to use a standard 1M cable to ensure there is no unneeded tension on the conectors when conecting to you equipment. Plaese dont start another "which make of HDMI is best " debate lol
