Sitting here listening to the rather impressive David Brinkman's album (Scottish singer/songwriter with a natty line in lyrics to match!) and loving my old amp doing its stuff again. It's been checked out again, the right channel problem's been sorted out and it's playing like a winner. Chuffed to bits. This amp's got a beautiful sound - if you get the chance on landing one, don't pass it up; in some ways it's quite contemporary sounding, but allied to an easy musicality that wins you over. The £200 or so you'd need to spend gets you an amp that'll easily hold its own against one costing £1000 or more. Easy and I've heard a few of late. The whole thing just speaks high end.

plastic penguin:Well done, RS - the old girl has been given the kiss of life then? I assume you've kicked the Leema into touch. It was looking so hopeful two weeks ago, so what was wrong with it?

Actually, there wasn't a whole lot wrong with the Leema, but there were a few tracks at home that had me sitting back and thinking....hmmm, not quite! Where the Sansui had it covered really. that was it; the Leema's great, by the by. Well worth checking out and The Home Cinema Centre in Edinburgh has one in mint nick for £699.

Cheers for that, RS - I'll check it out.

Enjoy the Sansui...

Good stuff Mr Spot! It's great to keep the old gems alive, the pride of ownership is high and you get a lovely chunk of old school build quality. All the more cash for music too! Any chance of some pics?

Not a bad idea! I'll see what I can do. Not opened it up since it came back and I'd be keen to see it too I think!

I love the fact that these retro amps are mentioned so often on this forum. It makes a refreshing from the usual DAC threads (before anyone starts to grumble, just making a general observation about the merits of older gear).

I still have fond memories of my old Pioneer which lasted me 17 years. I recently found a picture of my old set-up, and I just remember how proud I was, and hoe many extra friends I made as a consequence. My only reservation about the oldies, like any elecro-mechanical products - and like old cars - once they start to go wrong, it is usually followed, at some point, by residual problems. Otherwise, fabulous.
