Greetings WHF'ers!

Just a heads up to inform Samsung owners that there is yet another firmware update for the 8000 series that appears to eliminate the bugs that were still present in last weeks firmware (1012).

Version 1013 should vanquish such nasties as remote control lockup, unwanted power cycling and memory crashes.
It's available at Sammy's website and won't appear on the TV's automatic update system for another week or two as usual.

So just download onto a USB stick, execute the file on the stick which in turn will create a folder which the TV will recognize, then insert the stick into the TV and perform a manual update from the menu.

Thanks. Would be supercool if we could update from the tv web browser via Samsung website!

Well if I had to guess, I'd say the good folks at Sammy quietly release their upgrades on the website first for the more technical oriented users who bother to check regularly, then if there is any problems with the release they would receive a more detailed description of the fault from tech-heads rather than Joe Public ringing in and saying "my TV died".
If all is quiet then they release the new firmware into the system which is when the TV itself will indicate a new update is available.
Nothing like an army of free beta testers at your disposal!

I'm sure that's why Sky do updates to EPG etc, incrementally and not all boxes at once, in case the phone lines get swamped with customers pulling their hair out when their Sky boxes suddenly go "breasts up" ?
