Only right that Currys should have the new Samsung ranges in 40'',46'', 55'' given their ongoing support of that brand at hefty prices!! the 55'' is £3k. It will be a long time before these are sub £2k. Imagine the margin for the retailer and Samsung! I bet Currys will make £600 / £800 per set

Reviews of the 55'' are very good better than the 40'' C7000 apparently, and it is a beautiful set. If they did a 50'' or a 52'' at £2k would be on my list. Cannot think about a set any bigger than 52'' though

Do you think 55'' is the new 50'', As 50'' is the new 42'' etc etc in terms of what people think they need size wise

I am still considering one of these when they are released. Although this is a series 6 and not yet released it is replacing the similar series 7 screen (confused? I was) Apart from a new makeover aestheticaly the newer series 6 has more internet options apparently. Apart from that both are still equally priced and the specs are exactly the same. 55 inches does sound huge but due to the excellent quality of the picture I found it was good to watch at my distance of around 3.5 to 4 metres, in the shop at least anyway! Comet offered me their UE55B7020 display model, fingerprints and all, for £1800 which I politely declined

These will be around £2K which some will argue would buy a good 3D TV. I'm still feeling quite anti 3D so I'll hold back until I can actually see one of these up and running and then probably get one.

Davee I had not heard about the new 6000 series sounds like it could be another option for me too, like you I am not taken by the prospect of 3D as it is more down to the cinematic use of 3D rather than the technology.

Also like you I have a viewing distance of 3.5-4m so if you could share any of your trials etc I would certainly be thankful.

Neil, I would advise you to go into a local Currys/Comet and just hope they still have the 7 series on display. Just have a look for yourself what you think of the display from the distance you would be watching it. I stood around 4 metres and watched it for 10 minutes and in my opinion it had the best picture of any TV in the store. It was playing some fast sporty scenes and motion seemed excellent. Colours were bright and vibrant, this set just grabbed my attention above all others. There were some black scenes and they were excellent. In my brief demos I couldn't see any backlighting issues either. I currently own an older Samsung LCD which has served me well for years so I would be happy to replace it with another Samsung.

If you can find the 7 series and you do like it I would rest assured that Samsung will only have improved on their latest version when its released. Price wise, www.play.com did have the new 55 inch 6000 series advertised at £1799 but that seems to have vanished. After that I would say this is the best offer I can find at the moment with a Blu Ray player and free 5 year warranty for £1899.99.

Whatever you decide I'd wait for the new model to be put into a shop so you can go and see it for yourself. It's propbably worth shopping around for the best deal when it's released. Given the choice of £1799 at Play without warranty or £1899 with the 5 year warranty and Blu Ray player I'd definitely go with the latter.

For £3000 I'd want it to cook the dinner and wash my clothes as well. I suppose I did confuse things a bit hijacking the UE55C8000 thread with my thoughts on the UE55C6530!

by the way , the sammy 6 series led lcd is , like last years range , a 7 series without some internet options , and of course , without 3d , otherwise they are the same .. the 8 series adds 200hz along with 3d , there should be very little difference between the 3 with 2d picture quality..

Well a sales rep actually told me the 6 series adds more internet options (fancy that a sales rep telling lies!) Either way I personally don't really care, my laptop is for the internet and my TV is used for.........you guessed it TV!

well it looks like the 6 series could be the one for you ..

but , have you considered a samsung 3d plasma ? much cheaper than their lcd equivalent , and this year it seems that the sammy plasmas black levels are very good , their picture is sharp too , more lcd like than the panny plasmas , if you know what i mean ..

I did consider it and may yet change my mind again. Even if there was a decent Samsung 3D plasma that was around 50 inch I would still have to factor in the 3D Panasonic Blu Ray player at £400 (to link up to my Denon 2310) and at least 2 pairs of 3D glasses at around £200. To be honest that £600 might be better spent on a upgrading to a better 2D screen.

maybe so ,but will you need the glasses and 3d bluray player right away ? theres no content now anyway , yet ..

you could get them next year..

id be looking at getting 3d for the kind of money your looking at spending , to at least be future proofed ..

the samsung plasmas are very good , whfi gave their b650 5 stars last year , and were it not for the poor black levels (now rectified) they may have bettered the panasonics , id defo audition them ...

You are probably right, if the plasmas are as anywhere near as good as the LED/LCD screens it might be worth considering. When are they likely to hit the stores Max?

im not sure , maybe next month , one thing id bear in mind , the edge lit led sammys that you are keen on are very good , no doubt , ive seen a few in stores ,40b8000 , 46b7020 and they looked fantastic ..

ive also seen the b650 and panasonic g10 , v10 plasmas in stores , and they just didnt look as good , not as vibrant , maybe even a touch less detail..

but , get them home , and set them up properly , and the differences are not so obvious , under normal home lighting , im not saying the plasmas are better or worse than the leds , just that once calibrated , the wow factor that hits you in store with the leds , isnt as obvious , and there are no viewing angle issues , all the family will get the full on picture with a plasma..

have a think about it anyway , hopefully there will be a few reviews here soon ..
