Samsung UE 46D 8000 Picture Judder

I have only seen rave reviews about this TV yet I am on my second unit and get serious picture judder. It is like it drops frames, I have been through multiple setting changes and software upgrades and resets. I am so fed up with Samsungs poor customer service that now I just want my money back. It is a real shame as when there is no picture judder this is a truly stunning TV. I can't believe I have been the only unlucky one to get two faulty units. Has anyone else suffered from this or is there a magic bullet to fix the problem. I have had it suggested that I use game mode, which does reduce the judder, as well as the picture and sound quality, as I understand it only uses one of the TV's two processors. Also if I do go for something else any recommendations?
It really is a fantastic looking TV and when it performs well it is great, but on the other hand when judder occurs, particularly on things like hand movement it is very distracting and saps the enjoyment out of watching the TV.

hi i had this tv and apart from other issues mine to suffered from motion judder and no matter what i did with the settings i could not get rid of the issues imo most led/lcd tvs will always suffer with motion issues due to the nature of the technoligy hence why i turned to plasma where i dont get any

i had the samsung d7000 that also drove me up the wall with the juddering and shimmering, frame skips etc.Theres no picture perfect setting. The motion setting are enhanced motion, so in effect it's slightly false motion processing which seems to cause problems.I'm hopeing the new samsung es7000 motion settings are going to be a bit more advanced seeing as it has a dual core processer inside, which i've heard, but yet to see has helped out in that area.

I have a Samsung UE46C8000 and the motion judder is really poor on that as well, i have always had plasma previously so not had a problem before, can be really distracting when it happens, howeverthe TV is mainly used for the kids now as i watch on projector for movies and footy.

I'm quite surprised by this, as I thought judder etc was a thing of the past.

I guess it's the advanced processing that is causing the trouble, is there no way of turning it all off? I did for my old Samsung B650, and I can't remember having any of those problems.

To answer your question, the new GT and VT Panasonic Plasmas look pretty good to me, far better than a few years ago, and you'll have fantastic fluid motion too.

I've had LCDs and Plasmas in the past, but it's Plasmas for me from now on.

Thanks for the input big bernard, I have been through multiple setting changes on two units. It is quite infrequent, but so distracting when it happens. Like frames being dropped. I thought sport was pretty good, it was more apparent when watching a had move across the screen, however watching the golf last week, the ball flying through the air would gap very slightly. if I do get the issue resolved with Samsung I will certainly look at a Plasma. Its the MotionPlus that is causing you problems. When set to Standard, it is simply working too hard, and creates a very artifcial sensation of movement anyway. IT is prone to dropping frames in this mode too.

Set MOtionPLus to 'Clear' and you will find this a decent compromise. It will take you time to get used to a slight judder (but less so than without any processing at all) but on this setting it rarely drops frames and happily smooths things out a bit.

Otherwise go to manual setting and gradually move the sliders up a notch at a time until you find the right compromise.

I have this same TV - in fact it was a replacement for the previous yeas 'C' model which was faulty. I found Samsung customer service actually very good. And it is worth noting that the 'C' model had terrible problems with motion, which are much much better on this model.

steveca, when i had my samsung d7000,which is literally the same as the d8000. the best setting i found when watching freeview hd channels were (motion plus (clear) & led motion plus(on) & both digital noise filters set to (low) so the tv does'nt scan the picture so much . when watching blu-ray films set the motion plus to (standard) & led motion plus (on) and again both DIGITAL NOISE FILTERS to (low). With the digital noise filters set to low it stops a lot of juddering and blurring. those combinations i found were the best. Like i said previously the digital noise filters scan really high when left on (auto) which cause the picture to blur and judder when mixed with the motion setting.

Simple this, it's between 3 tvs...Panasonic GT50 or VT50 plasma or Sony HX853 LED, just depends on your budget and screen size you want and whether you prefer plasma or LED. Audition all 3 for yourself and make your own judgement, also consider what the tv will be used for mainly as that may help you decide.

I've just ordered the Samsung 46" es8000 smart tv through a scheme at work, basically you pay monthly out your wages over 3 years, but the money comes out before you are taxed so no tax paid on it. Was really looking forward to getting it next month but am kind of dreading it now having read this and other forums talking about the same thing. I thought What HiFi gave it 5 stars? Here's the verdict.

This is the top-of-the-pile set from the company that’s pushing Smart TV harder than anybody else; if you want to know what a television is capable of in 2012, then look no further.

For all the bells, whistles, shouts and gestures, the bread-and-butter tasks of watching TV, video and even 3D are where the ES8000 really excels.

It’s a worthy flagship.

If I was to purchase another Samsung I would have to go for the 55 inch, the 46 inch is tiny and the speakers are a little better on the bigger one. Samsung needs to work on its motion, Sony's is good and Panasonic have got it right this year.

Its was 7 months ago i replyed back regarding motion settings. I have the samsung ue46es6800 which i've had about 6 months now. slowly but surely i now have a stunning picture, and i look for faults. I basicly want perfection. I have set the colour space spot on, and the colour balance is very balanced along side some lovely picture clarity. When watching freeview or freesat hd set the motion plus to clear,and both digital noise filters off.that works fine. I have the denon 2012 bluray player and set my motion plus to smooth when watching films,because the denon does such a good job of sending the picture out so smoothly to the screen, in my opinion its looks the most stunning, everything in the picture has its place .The other motion settings don't seem to give the same sence of depth of field or organisation. I would also say that if you watch football on tv the smooth setting is absoluty rock solid ,for other programs i'd change it back to clear mode. with the smooth setting even though it might introduce the odd slight pixel trail if the motion gets frantic when watching through this setting, you can really see the tv holding a massive solid hold on things.

i had the ue40d6100 (samsung judder was awful on that despite settings change and firmware upates) yet my old 4 yr old lg lh7000 100hz 1080p tv never once juddered or blurred was a fantastic tv it was 32 inch so why the big difference in tvs then and now

hi i allso have a samsung 55 8000 and having the same problem with judder it as been back to the rapairs 3times and the second time thay replaced the main board i spoke to samsung today thay have said it has to go back again i asked for the tv to be replaced and thay have told me that because i had the tv from comet thay would not replace it can any one help.

That doesn't sound right to me. Just because you purchased a TV from a company that is now closed doesn't mean the TV shouldn't be replaced if its faulty. Isn't the first years warranty a manufactory warranty, thus Samsung should be replacing it if its faulty? I would suggest googling to see your options. How long have you had the TV? Yet do check back old statements to see if you bought goods on a credit card. As if so, provided they cost over £100, under Section 75 laws (see the useful links for more info), the credit card company is jointly liable for any problems, mirroring your rights with the retailer. Try the comet numbers and see if they still work, if not and you paid by Credit card report it to them as you should be covered.
