I have an Arcam CD92 with Arcam A85 Amp and P90 Power Amp bi-amping a pair of B&W 703's, and I've become interested in possible upgrade to an SACD player. Would a move to the Arcam FMJ 37 offer a worthwhile improvement over my present rig, or can anyone suggest another of equal or lesser cost? My listening is mostly classical: early music and choral, and solo piano. Here in my area in the States, one dealer would need to order anything from Arcam or anyone besides Yamaha, and the other doesn't consider SACD a worthwhile upgrade, so I am at a loss for pre-audition. Thanks very much.

Hello Humber. I use a high end Linn system for my stereo while what used to be a small dinning room has been converted into a cinema room. I really enjoyed listening to DVD-Audio and so wanted to take the surround sound a stage further. So purchased a budget SACD player from Sony which gives better sound quality than my dvd player with sacd discs.I did not want to spend a lot of money on something that has a limited market of discs. Though if you like jazz and classical are well catered for. The Sony is no world beater but none the less a very enjoyable machine for a shockingly low price.

Read the review's on Amazon from people who have the machine. It's a much cheaper option than changing your Arcam.

If you can get it, I'd recommend mine - Marantz SA7001 KI - fantastic player. Just makes you want to play one disc after another. Very neutral too and hence a bit unforgiving of a poor recording. Great build too.
