Is it still wise to run in a new plasma, nothing about it in the manual but I have set the picture quite dark with less colour for now and can anyone tell me what it means to set the side panel to high as recommended in the manual for a Panasonic Plasma to help lesson the risk of screen burn, what is the side panel and whats it mean high, low, off I cannot see any diffrence in picture with any setting? Thanks

KitKat,

Side panel probably refers to the pillar box mask which you get either side of an image when watching 4:3 material. Not sure what the high, low or off settings actually refer to (I'm not a panasonic owner and I can't get into the grading suite at work where we have a VT20 as a client monitor to check for you.)

Even if Panasonic don't mention it in the manual, it's probably a wise thing to do for the first 100 hours at least just to allow the screen to settle down.

Enjoy your new toy!

Assuming side panel settings are the same as on my older G10: then yes, it alters the colour of the bars dislayed while watching 4:3 content. In the interests of gently running your TV in, it's sensible to select the "mid" or "high" setting for the first few weeks.

If the screen performs comparably to mine, then high contrast settings don't produce the most natural or stable picture. In other words, leaving contrast somewhere around 50% is probably close to the optimal setting; and you won't be pushing the TV too hard, either. Be careful not to leave static images on the screen for too long. That said, I've had no issues with screen-burn.

Hope you enjoy...
