Absolutely gutted and I'm not one for celebrity fan worship or massive outpouring of grief.

Badmotorfinger is one of my all time favorite albums and changed the direction of the music I came to love.

Way too young to pass. Terribly sad, whatever the cause of death.

'Oh my God' moments today since hearing...

Soundgarden performed last night and he's gone this morning. Don't really want to speculate on cause but the rumours are suggesting online of suicide. Really hope not.

All my idols are disappearing... Andrew Wood, Kurt Cobain, Layne staley, Scott Weiland...

Think there's only Eddie Vedder, Mark Lanegan and Mike patton (albeit different genre) left standing...

I've just been listening to Alice in Chains "Unplugged" when I saw this thread. I respect and like each and every name on your list. But Chris, Layne and Eddie are absolute legends for me. The only time I cried when a celebrity died was when Layne passed. Oh, what an unbelievably sad day!

Unfortunately so. Used a carabiner attached to the top of the door to secure a red elastic exercise band and took his life. Sad, so very, very sad. I saw him in 2007 at Graspop in Belguim.

When depression, anxiety kicks in hard.....how well off you are or how happy you seem to be....or should be.....from the outside looking in. doesn't even come into the equation.it's a chemical imbalance in the brain and for some it's unbearable.health is wealth people.even mental health.

I've seen some pretty insensitive - borderline offensive (well, blatantly offensive) posts on Facebook regarding Chris Cornell's death, and some of it is pretty sickening! The point is that, none of us know what is going on in the minds of those we don't know - happiness doesn't matter, income doesn't matter - a perfect example of this is the film directed by Paddy Considine called Tyrannosaur - those we meet in our every day lives may be dealing with far greater issues than many if can comprehend - we've seen many celebrities fall fall foul of this demon, including the likes of Robin Williams, Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, Ian Curtis, etc etc,

With regards to mental health, those of us that have no point of reference cannot comprehend what others are going through. Some of us may be in the same situation at some point in our lives. Just think how frustrating that would be for you to try and convey your feelings to loved ones.

You sort of accept this sort of thing if it was The Rolling Stones or The Beatles, but not bands who were around in the 90s.

Totally agree David.

I don't believe in 2017 there isn't the help for anyone battling mental issues. I can only guess his entourage were as guilty as Chris.

He had such a naturally aspirated voice for hard rock.I can't... at the moment think of anyone who comes close.I had a wee tribute last night with the 25th anniversary editions of badmotorfinger and temple of the dog albums (vinyl of course)....still to get around to having a good listen to higher truth...

Very sad. Another young talented musician wasted.

I have Soundgarden's 'Superunknown' and his solo 'Euphoria Morning' albums. Still sound excellent.
You really need to get into Audioslave. I know many will quote Soundgarden, but their debut album is excellent. Bear in mind, this is Rage Against The Machine but with a different front man - Chris Cornell.

Yeah, I'll have to check that album out at some point. *good*

You could argue he was the next best thing to Ronnie James Dio with regards to rock vocals.

Uncanny - after thoughtless friends not returning my CD well over 20 years ago, I re-purchased Superunknown about a month before his death. And it's just a fu*ing great album - and it's not really grunge although it was superior to anything out of their peers at the time. It's just a great album of any genre.

Note of caution: The standard re-issue criminally omits She Likes Surprises at the end. I bought the MP3. The album is incomplete without it.
