went to Richer sounds Cambridge on thursday to get some speaker cable end connects ... very friendly lads ... they even fitted the connects for free ... was impressed with the service and friendliness ...

They may be slightly partisan when it comes to dispensing advice, but a more helpful bunch of in store guys you couldn't wish to meet. In my local store one of them was quite frank about the links they have with Audio Partnership. I think a lot of staff members in hifi shops are inclined one way or another with particular brands, simply down to personal taste. That's why I like Sevenoaks too, because they're franchises, they only sell what they like.

small world, i rang richer sounds preston on bank holiday monday.

have you got an onkyo tx-sr507 in stock, yes 2, 1 in silver 1 in black.

sorted, on my way, 16 miles later, sorry there not brand new, both open box ex display. explanation, sorry computer glitch ?

the silver one had a couple of scratches on it, and got it for £235, down from £269.

very happy, in place on the stand shelf you cant see the marks and with my panny bluray bliss....

Or whatever wins an award/5 star review in a certain magazine title...! Call me cynical when it comes to some stores stocking decisions, but I have to look long and hard to find alternative options in Sevenoaks. There isn't a branch in Edinburgh anymore, but the Swiss Cottage branch was no different.

Not saying this is particularly wrong, but I do wish franchise chains like Sevenoaks would support other lines. Puresound or Icon Audio for instance and to name but two. That might have changed and I am perhaps being unfair to a degree as it's been a good 18 months since I last visited one of their shops, hope springs eternal!

Preston is my nearest store and whilst ive not been in for over a year I can say the dealings ive had with them in the past have been unpleasant. Make sure you know what 'you' want as their advice is dodgy at best!

Swings and roundabouts. I asked about Wharfy 10.1s as opposed to MA BR2s and the guy said he didn't think Wharfdale much of a hifi brand so they didn't stock them, it's either a stupid sweeping statement of a whole brand or a brave decision to stock only what they feel is right for them, or to cut competition for low end MA/B&W whose products they seem to stock heavily. But I've been into more specialised hifi shops who stock very few brands. While getting time for a decent conversation at RS is very difficult on the weekend, they are a good shop with big ranges. And while you may get all the time in the world in a more specialist shop, you're not likely to get the range for comparison that you might get at a high street store.
