It's at the front of every group test / super test done in the mag, but basically:ÿ

5 Stars = Excellent

4 Stars = Very good

3 Stars = Average

2 Stars = Below Par

1 Star = Don't Botherÿ

Or rather:

4 or 5: go audition first

1, 2 or 3: don't bother

I think the WHF star rating system is useful when comparing equipment from the same price category. What do people think about adding a category rating which will help readers distinguish between a rating 5 star rating of an entry level component and a five star ratings of a mid or top range component. You might say that I can work out the 'category' according to price. However, price and quality don't always correlate and this is why a category rating could be useful. Do you agree?

We do divide products into categories in both our Best Buys (stereo amplifier example here) and Buyer's Guide, online and in mag.

Our Awards are also divided into price categories where appropriate - eg best budget 40in TV, best premium 40-42in TV etc.

For even more specific advice at tighter price points, we are happy to offer bespoke advice on these Forums!
