As the title suggests I am looking at ways to improve my Rega RP1 without the performance pack and I guess stylus would be a good starting point (please let me know if different)...say I wanted to spend up to £50-60 on upgrading what would your choice be in terms of stlyus, new to vinyl so a little wet behind the ears.

Depends on the cartridge in the TT at present? but I'd doubt any meaningfull change for that money, unless the present cartridge is totaly shot? . . . however, a good move would be to change the black drive belt for the inproved 'white drive belt' £21'ish . . . money left for a 4-pack, one new album and a couple of charity shop LP's?

Thanks CJSF for the reply and certainly seems like a good idea, was thinking of upgrading to the white belt but pretty sceptical as to how much of a difference it will make. I did add it to my xmas list but wife refusing to get it for me as according to her it's just an elastic band!!

So looks like I will have to get it myself..

Its the best £20 worth I have spent, I tried the Rega power supply @ £150, not happy with the earthing arangement, produced a low level hum through the speakers, Rega dealer had no answer, got money back. So I put the white belt on, it had a similar stablising effect as the PSU!

Here you go Marplesl . . . another fifteen quids worth, SRM's 'Subplater Damping kit', 12 sections that damp the sub plater. Does what it says on the tin, it works trust me.

I have moved on from this to a full metal subplatter and bearing replacement, but, the simple kit does more than the £15 it costs:

eBay No. 271108300586

I experimented with mine and found eliminating two oposing sections worked best for me, but experimenting is the name of this game.

Cross the designer handbag off her list and replace it with a Sainsburys Plastic Carrier , still looks like a bag to me.

When she wants an expensive watch buy her a £5 plastic one off the market and tell her it does the same job. :shame:
