replacement receiver for marantz sr5200

HI, I need advice on a replacement receiver for my marantz sr5200. It would mainly be used for movies, occasionally for music. I'm using 2 subwoofers, 1 wharfedale and 1 jpw. Wharfedale towers, eltax centre and 4 mission surround speakers. I can get any of the following receivers for around £400 but, cannot make my mind up on which is the best due to there being mixed reviews. They are:

Pioneer vsx-920
Denon avr-2310
Onkyo 608
Yamaha 1065

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Your speakers are a 'mix n match' system which in my view will not produce a sound that is seamless, cohesive or coherent by any measure.

Again, in my view, I think you need a proper speaker package first that will do justice to any of the amps you mentioned or it will be a futile exercise, not to mention a waste of money.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. The speakers ive got sound good with my current receiver. Around a year ago i bought the wharfedale diamond speaker package, I wasnt impressed, they sounded very flat to me so I sold them and went back to the speakers i am using now. Any thoughts on the receivers though?

Each receiver has it's own distinctive tonal texture that may or may not appease your listening taste - it would be best to audition them yourself and decide accordingly.

Your speaker set-up will undoubtedly make that process a little difficult - but if it works for you, that's all that matters. A home demo appears to be inevitable, particularly in this case.
