I currently have a Marantz PM7200 Amplifier that has served me well over the years, however something has failed and the Amplifier will no longer turn on. From what i can gather the likley source is the power pack has failed. Before failing the amp was also ommiting a crackling sound in the right speaker which may a different fault. I like the Amp, and have noticed from searching for a fix it has good reputation.

I would like to get it fixed but dont know how much it will cost, the repair centres require that i send it in for a quote which will cost approx £35-40. I dont know how much repair will be on top. I suspect it wont be cheap.

I could source anther from ebay or would i be better of getting a new Amp?

I would hesitate in repairing it, howevr,,that would depend on what your budget it to attempt to find an equivalent replacement.

A replacement from Ebay may very well be close to extinction too.

You may very well find the cost of gettting it checked out worthwhile though as it may be a simple fix.

Thanks for the reply.

"A replacement from Ebay may very well be close to extinction too" Thats something i had not considered, will bear in mind.

Expect budget for replacement would be 250-300.

The amp is completely dead, no signs of life at all. Nothing happened to it, it just stopped would not swith on one day.

I have opened the unit up and had a look iniside, can't see any burnt out components etc. Have also tried changing the fuse in the plug.

Going on eBay and clicking completed listings, four have sold around the £100 mark in working condition in the last week or so. One chap listed his as collection only ending at 17:28 and it went for £75! Bargain of the century, wish it was me that had it! One did sell for £305 buy it now though.

Thank you for all the replies,

I tried the plug fuse, have just had another look inside and found the other fuse, are these standard fuses that i would get in a hardware shop or are they a specialist fuse. Have not worked out how to get it out yet as is crammed between other bits.

Good news that they are going cheap, i had seen a buy it now one for about 300, there are also a few on there without bids.
