Recording DVDs with Surround Sound

Depends on your source. You wouldn't, for example, be able to record surround sound from Sky as the connection in would have to be through Scart which couldn't carry that signal (and I suspect the Sky box has some sort of protection against transferring the signal through any of the other outputs). On the other hand, if you've got one of those fancy HD camcorders with surround that can be hooked up to the recorder through Firewire or some such, I believe this should work. If this is what you're looking to do, I'd check the manuals of your recorder and camcorder to be sure.

Do you know which connections are able to carry surround sound signals? You mentioned firewire, are there any others that you know of?

From researching DVD HDD decks I found all that I looked at only recorded in 2 channel or mono, depending on the source, irrespective of the input.
