Some of these LPs may be quite valuable, especially the classical ones if they're of a particularly limited range or pressing, or of a particular performance, etc. Get a reputable dealer (better two or three) to give you a valuation. You should be able to generate a decent sum, but ultimtately, try to avoid job-lotting them on Ebay. You won't make the price you maybe deserve and you might also miss out on a - as stated - particularly valuable item.

My advice would be not to,unless you areÿabsolutelyÿstrapped for cash, and the amount you might get would be a pittance compared to the time ,effortÿand indeed expense in building your collection,a dealer would only cherry pick, they may be prepared to take a good quantity but for sure would beat you down on price as "I am taking alot of stuff i wont be able to shift".

If music means something to you and it must to have built a nice collection, then you will surely regret it at a later stage.

I have sold a vinyl collection to fund a house renovation and was around the time you could not buy so much newÿvinylÿwith the advent of the CD,then built up a large Cd collection only to sell it again as i wasÿdisillusionedÿwith CD and still am.Out with my vinyl went my Linn Sondek LP12 regretted it almost straight away and still do.I have recently sold my Arcan CD192ÿwhichÿleaves another large CD collection but this one will be put away until i get the CD bug again and bored with computer based music, which i surely will.

I hope you reconsider

I sold my LP collection to a second hand/new record shop. I got a good deal as I was known to them anyway and because I did a trade, the LPs for CDs as I was switching format. Why are you selling? If you are going to PC based music I would keep the CDs as they can become backup if your hard drive fails. Otherwise I would cherry pick the best ones to sell on e-bay and the rest as a job lot either on e-bay or at a dealer.

The collection belonged to my late uncle and have no value to myself, I have to sell them as they are part of his estate. I do not have time to go through the collection and list them. All I know are they are all mint or near mint condition. He used white cotton gloves when handling them.

In that case, are you keen to maximise the return, or just get shot of it? To maximise, take some time, check out the titles and the catalogue numbers (LPs specifically, less so the CDs) and get investigating.

I use Ebay a lot, but beware the fees - assume 10% if you use Paypal too for payment (which you have to offer) off your final sales.

If they are classical, some of the Decca labels are highly sought after - there are a few sites out there dedicated to this label and here's one link to give you an idea of what I mean by valuable:-

OK, so they're not a first pressing Sergeant Pepper's but £50 for one LP times possibly several would be a worthwhile return for your time no?

Thanks for the info, The Record Spot. I will have a look though the LPs and see whats there. On a quick look at the link, one record looks familiar.
