Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me? This is my first post on here so bear with me ;) .

I've recently just bought an akai GX4000D reel to reel and have a pair of wharfedale modus six and modus one speakers (a bit old i know) and was wondering what amp to run it through to get the best sound? I spotted a cambridge audio A5 integrated amp in my local cash converters and wondered whether it would be suitable? My current amp is a pioneer surround sound amp i bought 2nd hand a couple of years ago now which im running my cd, minidisc through at the moment but i would like to upgrade my amp before adding my reel to reel to my system. Can anyone recommend an amp around 100 pounds for my needs? Or will i need to increase my budget to get the best sound? I don't mind buying 2nd hand to increase my options for my budge though.

Any help,recommendations greatly appreciated,

Thanks in advance,

Scott.

JVC A-X5/A-X7/A-X9. Superb amplifiers from '79 to '82 - the sound-quality is mind-blowing, reliablilty faultless and it will be inkeeping with the rest of your vintage set-up. I have an A-X5 and it is truly better than more modern stuff out there, and has two tape monitors for your reel-to-reel, a superb phono stage, 70 watts per channel, a really nice looking amp aswell! You can pick the A-X5 up on eBAY for just £80 in excellent condition.

If you wanted to go newer, I would recommend some of Arcam's products such as the Alpha 7 amplifier or even an Alpha 8 amplifier.

separate input for a moving coil or moving magnet cartridge. some amps have both some only one usually an mm. you have a nice reel to reel there and most amps with twin outputs for a tape deck would be ideal. how about an audiolab 8000a about £100.00 on ebay, cracking amp.
