I'm looking to buy an LCD screen and will be hooking it up to my PS3 primarily to play games and watch movies. I came upon a reasonably priced 42" LG with 1920x1080, 30,000:1, and 5 ms response time but has a refresh rate of 60 Hz. I want the best display possible and was wondering if I should go for a similarly spec. screen but with a 100/120 Hz refresh rate. I've read some mixed opinions with some claiming that refresh rate for LCDs don't matter but the response time is more important. Would appreciate any help. thanks!

If you read the review in hdtvtest.com on the new Sony KDL40W4000 yhere is specifix ref made to it's excellence with games

'We measured the input lag on the Sony KDL40W4000 to be 30ms better/ faster than our resident Samsung F96 reference,
meaning that it's probably on par with a CRT (as good as it gets). Now
we know why Sony didn't bother including a [Game Mode] in the user
menu... there's simply no need'.

Its now around 950 quid with 5 year warranty but thats a bargain in LCD terms

My Pany 42PZ85 plasma claims a refresh rate of 0.001msec. Way faster than even the best LCD models. Excellent on fast motion games like Burnout Paradise or GT5. Good with SD and unbelievable with HD or upscaled dvd's. Even the sound is pretty good as well.

thanks for all your suggestions. I originally considered plasma because I like the image depth and the blacks but I'll be using the screen in a relatively bright room and think a plasma may not be suitable. moreover, I am unable to find a plasma at the same size with 1920 x 1080 at a similar price.

I want to keep it in my budget range (~500-600) right now because I'm waiting on the Samsung Series 9 and the Sony XBR8 and will compare that to the new Phillips (which has 2 ms response time). the LG seems like a good deal except for the 60 Hz which comes back to my original question whether it will make a great difference or not. i was told that the 5 ms response time is plenty good and that the 60Hz refresh rate was fine. I don't have a great deal of time to go out and make comparisons but hope to do so before the purchase. thanks again
