Question for Editors

Oh, in the name of all thats holy...

Its the Gotham GAC1, everybody knows that.

You're the Joker

It's got to be the Maplin optical cable: -

"Holds its own with cables costing £1,000+, especially in respect of transferring 0s and 1s a 1 metre distance".

Oh god...and all Cheddar cheese tastes the same too.

No of course it doesn't.

I am certain that in blind tests I could reliably identify the difference between a mild and mature variety. There will also be objective differences, for example, months of maturity.

Could you do the same with optical cables? No. And it's the same with mains. You're spending hundreds of pounds on areas of negliable improvement when changes in loudspeakers, for example, are blindingly obvious.

I agree that spending hundreds makes only subtle differences on occasion, but there were a number of reasons for this.

1) I like subtle, high quality improvements

2) They were bought for now and just as importantly for the future. More cost now, less in the long-run as I am now fully mainsed up for the next 5 years at least, probably 10.

3) Er indoors doesn't know and she would if I had bought new speakers

4) The Nordost on my CDP made quite a substantial difference.

5) All second hand so I can sell them on for little or no loss if necessary.

6) They have satisfied my upgrade craving. For now.

7) I like hifi. Per Se. And enjoy tweaking.

8) Music sounds better and slightly more refined than before.

I'm sure Joel was talking about stereo interconnets by the way.

Joel,

The fact that you have to hide cable expenditure from your wife is the disturbing part of the hobby.

I would recommend watching a YouTube documentary about the Audiophile Club of Athens, and notice how shocked families are when system costs are revealed.

But even if it was, that's practically everybody

Aha, back to the old fashioned way for you: use square brackets around colons, semi colons and brackets... [ 🙂 ] (without the spaces)

Or check out PJPro's formatting tutorial for the gif equivalents.

Download firefox, works on that, I'm using Safari 4 (Beta) usually works but I never use em anyway 😉

That reminds me, I asked to be considered for the post of editor cleaner a while back, but no application form ever arrived........

The best interconnect has to be Nordost Odin - 1m pair £12,000

You can also have a 3m pair of speaker cable at a cool £23,300

These prices sound absolutely ridiculous but I guess put things into context, if your in the enviable position of putting together the best stereo system money can buy (£300,000 plus) then they don't seem out of place.

For me it would have to be:

Source: not sure, top of the range Esoteric CD player with transport and mono dac's

Amp: Complete Krell Evolution preamplifiers and power amplifiers

Speakers: Wilson Audio Alexandra

No idea what the above will sound like together, but the system would have to build around the speakers.

Safari problem apparently, they don't implement the Javascript properly. I know I've stopped using Safari because a number of websites don't work properly, very irritating.

Ah, OK, I'll change to Firefox when I get the replacement mac. Someone told me macs were reliable...ÿ

I've been corrected, JD, no need to be upset, it's Apple's fault, not yours, I take it back. I am learning to hate my mac....

It's not actually Apple's fault deep down, it's a combination of things - we use a third party product for forums, which happens to not work very well with Safari, so you can blame Apple's implementation of web standards, the third party's lack of testing with enough browsers, blah blah.

Interestingly, Safari 3.0 works fine with the latest version of the forum software, but if and when we upgrade will be a strategic decision dependent on lots of factors. In the meantime, I can deffo recommend firefox for Mac, which is (IMO) a slightly better browser than Safari (though I haven't really tried Safari 4.0, after Club Penguin failed to work with it, causing trauma in my house). Just count yourself lucky you don't have IE6...
