Quality bass speakers for dubstep?

I use a pair of wharfedale valdus 500's which are around 10 years old with an arcam alpha 9. Which play dubstep well. However to play real deep you need a sub. I bought a sw150 for £70, works well for the price, retail was around £250ish

You can get the newer version of my speakers - wharfedale xarus 5000 new for £140 from amazon which is a good value

That plus a good amp and your set :)

Is this for parties or home listening, how loud do you want it?

If you wanted just really low bass just get bookshelves and a sub, but if you want real midbass slam get some decent floorstanders, maybe add a sub later??

if you want more refined sound maybe get wharfedale diamonds/second hand b and w's/monitor audio bx/br1's

if you just want loads of noise (and ok refinement) get xarus 5000's/cerwin vega's

my personal recommendation would be the xarus-put it this way your setup will sound better than OR be louder than 90% of audio at any price, the only way your gonna get substantially louder is with a pa setup and they sound a bit ####

I'm just looking for better bass for home listening in an apartment, just want to clearly be able to hear the under 50Hz notes in music. Also, active solutions are the way to go preferrably. I have never fiddled with amps etc so active speakers would be more noob friendly :p

The only additional connection with passive speakers is speaker wire from the speaker to the amp it takes about 1 minute to do.

If its home listening I would recommend the following: wharfedale 9.1/tannoy bookshelves: £80-100,

nad/arcam/cambridge audio amp second hand:£50-150

any active subwoofer with a 10inch+ driver second hand from ebay: £rest of budget

If your really set on active speakers I have no clue where to start advising, but you wont get substantial <50hz performance without a subwoofer. (You dont find active floorstanders below several thouand£). Active speakers are usually monitors which have different characteristics to hifi speakers, eg they require you to be sat near to them, dont sound good off axis, and are ultimately designed for the production of music not its reproduction.
