Hello Simon

Yes the cable will be suitable but the speakers would benefit from a larger gauge speaker cable. This would be especially worthwhile if you are going to have longer runs (e.g., 5m+).

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Darren

Hi Simon

I understand you wanting a thinner cable to help with installing under the carpet. If you can go for a slightly thicker cable (e.g., 1.75sq/mm conductors rather than 1.25sq/mm) at that length the difference should be quite significant and worthwhile. Am sure that some forum members will be able to help you out with recommendations.

You could probably run something slightly thicker around the edges of your carpet against the gripper strip if you cut away a little of the underlay thus making a channel. The cable would then sit in the channel between the gripper strip and underlay with the carpet on top.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Darren

If you want to use QED, I would use the Micro cable for the surrounds and thicker Silver Anniversary cable for the fronts and centre. This is very common practice. My carpet fitters just cut into the underlay with a knife and the cable slotted in.

Please could someone explain what is the difference between 1.75sq/mm and 1.25sq/mm as quote.

I second the suggestion of running Micro to the rear and surround with Silver Anniversary XT to the L+R+F seems to work really well with more weight (kinda) eminating from the front.

One thing I will say though is that stripping the ends off SA-XT is nice and easy. Stripping the ends off Silver micro is really, REALLY hard....

IMHO the general consensus of using Silver Anniversary XT for the Front and Centre speakers whilst using Silver Micro for the rears is good. However, as stated elsewhere, Silver Micro is DREADFUL to work with, the insulation is almost impossible to strip.

If you do end up purchasing Silver Micro then terminations via the dealer make sense.

Except at the wall mounted end of a Kef 1005/2005 because theres no room for the banana unless you recess the wall.

The figures refer to the cross section of the cable (how thick).

The larger the figure - the larger the load it can carry (house plug socket 2.5mm sq, where as a cooker 6mm sq)

Hope this helps.
