Dear All,

I'm thinking about buying the Quad S5 speakers.

I've tried to find information about these loudspeakers, but it seems that there is almost no discussions nor reviews about them.
I assume that they are not prevalent.
Are they considered good? Is there a reason for their rarity?

www.hifi-review.com has a review. I don't know a Quad speaker that isn't half decent given the right ancillary equipment.
There's also a thread about them on this site if you search

The top end of that range never seemed to get much attention. In face, for quite a while Quad speakers that weren’t their more famous ELS type rarely got much coverage.

If the price is right, and you like the looks, they look to be a nice buy. If you’re searching, note the spelling and hyphen, in case it yields more results. Quad S-5.

I own the quad s4 & personally love them, the ribbon tweeters are a joy. The s5 with its larger base drivers should have a bit more weight to the base, which could be a little light with the s4 (easily resolved with the addition of a sub). I have some kef r500s in my main system & with female vocals & strings etc the ribbon tweeters in the s4 do something the kefs can’t quite match, there is an air & space around the sound that’s never fatiguing. I love my s4s & personally think they are a very refined speaker & great value. I have found they do like a reasonably powerful amp to truly bring out the best in them.
