Just read the review on the Q Acoustics 3050 5 stars! What a company what a product they are really showing the establishment what can be done! My hats off to them. They really do sound that good. Now if only I could get this much exposure!

I have been looking for new speakers for ages. It seems to me that all reviews start with comments like 'at this price point' or 'for under £x these must be heard'.

When I was just getting into hifi, Wharfedale were pushing out the early Diamond models and everybody agreed that, for the price, they were jolly good. Now, we have companies like Q Acoustics that have award winners all over their range. Yet, they are still considered a good choice for the budget conscious hifi beginner. Do people ever connect these speakers up to top end electronics and suddenly realise that they are hearing something special?

Basically, are price points relevant with modern speakers? How much do you spend on a hand crafted wooden box? How much SQ do you get for £500 compared to, say, £1500?

The WHF star rating is confusing. I would prefer a two scale system ... one for the quality (of sound or picture etc), and another for value for money. The 3050 might be a 5* product in terms of value for money for the sound it produces at the advertised price point, but maybe a 3 or 4* system based on absoute sound quality compared to some other reference speaker.

Without specifically answering your question, in most cases, I would rather have a £1500 Amp + £500 Speakers, than the other way round.

For budget passive speakers I like Q Acoustics better than any others. They're the most natural and easy to listen to speakers in their price bracket IMO.

Interestingly the Q Acoustics engineers have converted some of them to actives which they use themselves for when listening to music at the factory. Sadly there doesn't seem to be enough of a market to put them into production ATM. :(

Yes I kind of agree, however the Q Acoustics punch well above there weight. Listening to my speakers tonight I had a 6' ball of soundstage moving in all directions with satelites of sound moving around in all directions. Punchy solid bass, vocals petruded out of the centre. I really don't think the Q Acoustics could achieve this with a balanced non fatiguing tone. Then my speakers have bettered some £4500 speakers! Having said all that the Q Acoustics still are a performance bargain something I love. Personally I'd rather a £500 amp and £1500 speakers.

IME. The problem is, that in order to get the qualities that you have just described from your speakers, usually requires an amp that is of a higher quality.

I bow to your superior experience! Or you could buy a A......*preved*

I must say I've learnt a hell of a lot in the last 2 years. I set up my mums AVI's over the weekend, used a Amazon Fire TV as digital source Spotify Connect on the cheap. Brilliant little thing with stunning picture. I might start a thread on my thoughts but I really don't want to start anything!

"...are really showing the establishment what can be done!"

Thought they were 'the establishment'. I know they are a fairly new company but in terms of reviews they get across the board and numbers sold, they are more established than so-called established names, certainly in the UK.

Established in 2006! The reason they are getting lots of good reviews is because they are really punching well above their weight. I think Kef just celibrated 50 years with the LS50! 50 years! Now that's established.

There's a lot of names that punch above their weight...

The secret with Q Acoustics is their distribution and the number of outlets. Set that against Electrocompaniet and, arguably, Leema Acoustics, EB Acoustics and 'Q' are demonstrating exceptional business acumen.

Again, price comes down to excellent strategy. You need to target at a certain audience to maximise the potential.

Successful businesses comes down to 3 major factors:

1) Logistics

2) Strategy

3) Quality of products.

If just one of those fails to hit the target it won't succeed.

This is where your business will be determined: No point promoting on Ebay and hope to make a mint. By the same token, if you push the products too hard and they're only available from Cheltenham... that won't work either.

The slightly odd thing is, I don't want you to.....unless you have tried it for yourself. I have no inalien rights to "Hifi Law", just a bit of personal trial and error. All I want to do, is get people to try it and see if they agree.

That's true, but PT has been going considerably longer and stocks/supplies a vast array of different brands, whereas Mr. B builds kit speakers and stocks obscure Scandanavian amps and CDPs that practically no-one has heard of.

Well, after getting that much free advertising on here I think you owe it to WHS&V and us to supply a sample of your speakers for review. Exposure guaranteed

Thats a good idea though i would doubt they would. Probally more apropriate for the amps and it has crossed my mind to ask.

I would also like to point out i only talk about my kit like you guys do, its just that I sell it also, and it is imense value for money.

I saw these in RS a few days ago whwn I popped in for a nosey as I was passing, there was a pair of the older models (2050i) next to them, the cabinets on the old model were definatly more solid and inhert when I knocked on them, the new model was much uglier and the cabinets were more hollow, yet apparanty they sound better , (or just different) then again if they have improved drivers and crossovers , the budget cuts are made in the cabinet? the specs confirm the cabinets are about 4kg lighter each
